Global responds to very mad Rock Star fans

    GLOBAL TELEVISION PROGRAM ADVISORY
"ROCK STAR: SUPERNOVA - FINALE REPLAY"
    **SPECIAL PRESENTATION**
    FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 15, 2006
    8pm ET/PT - FULL TUNING GUIDE BELOW

AUDIENCES NATIONWIDE CAN ROCK WITH LUKAS, MAGNI, TOBY AND DILANA ONCE AGAIN

(TORONTO - September 14, 2006) Global Television has confirmed that Rock Star: Supernova fans coast-to-coast can enjoy an encore presentation of the thrilling season finale - featuring Canadian Lukas Rossi crowned as lead singer of the newly-formed rock supergroup, by members Gilby Clarke, Jason Newsted and Tommy Lee.
The technical error that affected a portion of last night’s presentation in Eastern Canada did originate from the broadcast source in Los Angeles. Although Global did re-broadcast the finale in its entirety last night at 10pm ET in Ontario, Quebec and Manitoba, many Global viewers were not able to take advantage of this opportunity in these regions.
While audiences in Western Canada were unaffected by the situation and enjoyed the program in its entirety as originally scheduled - we're also bringing it back to them again as part of this special national presentation.

If you're a TV broadcaster, you don't want to screw up the finale of a series. Especially if it's the finale of a highly rated reality show. Even more so if there happens to be a Canadian in the running for the big prize.
So you can bet that Global was cursing the fickle hand of fate Wednesday night when a satellite feed mix-up resulted in viewers east of Saskatchewan missing a good chunk of Rock Star: Supernova's season finale, in which Toronto's Lukas Rossi emerged triumphant.
"There was a miscommunication with CBS and the feed coordinator, and it spilled out from there," said Barb Williams, CanWest's senior vice president of programming and production.
Two versions of the Rock Star: Supernova finale -- the two-hour international version and the one-hour domestic version -- had been beamed by the CBS satellite to Global's control centre, when only the shorter one should have been sent.
Global staff in the Calgary broadcast centre started playing the primary satellite feed, but realized after the first commercial break that something was amiss. They checked the second feed and discovered it contained the right version, then quickly switched over.
Unfortunately it meant viewers in the east missed the departure of Iceland's Magni Asgeirsson, and about half of Rossi's performance of Bitter Sweet Symphony.
    And some were not happy.
"Rock Star is a huge hit," Williams said yesterday. "It's the finale, we had our very own Canadian vying for the top spot -- yeah, we heard from a lot of viewers."
Global hastily re-ran the full one-hour episode at 10 p.m. Wednesday night, and the finale will be rebroadcast again tonight, airing locally at 8 p.m. Even with the glitch, Global said the finale drew 1.4 million viewers nationally in the 18 to 49 demographic.
