The CW Falls apart! Runaway Cancelled!

Ehh remember last year when they said that joining The WB and UPN would be a great idea for both networks? Um nope not so much.

Most shows on The CW are down atleast 20% from last year, and this is with more local stations and advertising. Even worse The CW is doing worse than The WB did in Adults 18-34, the demo that the network is going after. Only 2 shows are up from last season, both of which aired on UPN.

With every show down from last year you think atleast the new shows will do well, nope! Runaway the new drama got UNDER 2 million viewers, most shows on cable get more on that!

The CW already tried to save some of their shows with a schedule change that swapped 2 nights, however that didn't work, both shows still got awful ratings.

Anywho, Runaway the new drama (and the only new drama on the network) has now been cancelled, The CW will fill Runaway's Sunday at 9:00PM slot with reruns.

Runaway started out on The CW Mondays at 9:00PM only it did so bad in that slot it was moved.

Runaway is the second show to be offically cancelled this season, with the first one being the CBS drama Smith. Funny because both shows are produced by CBS and air on CBS owned stations.

By the way Global TV had the rights to air Runaway, however they never aired it and now that it's cancelled I really can't see them airing it. Not really sure why Global picked up Runaway, they never had plans to air it anyway, maybe just so CHUM could not pick it up?

Anywho Runaway kinda reminds me of Sex Love and Secrets which aired on UPN last year and got awful ratings and was cancelled after 4 episodes (by the way Global also had the rights to that show and aired 2 episodes on CH before pulling it)

I watched Runaway it wasnt horrible but then again it wasnt the greatest series ever. i could barley watch it though on monday i kept on flipping through the channels i thought it was cause of my short atention span but i guess not i guess its cause the show wasnt really much. As for the CW network in general what will happen if the ratings slide what could they do try another rebrand? umm go off the air i donno.

I think it would be cheaper for The CW to just shut down, The WB can work on making shows for other networks (which is where they make most of their money anyway) and CBS can work on their cable networks (by the way most of the CBS owned cable networks get better ratings than The CW)

CBS only owns the Showtime Newtorks now since it spun-off MTV Networks to VIACOM.

Global probably did buy it to keep it off of another network if they did have no intention of airing the show. This wouldn't be the first time that has happened. I don't recall what the show was but I know CTV purchased a US show last year precisely because they didn't want Global to get it. They had no intention of airing it but didn't want any competitors to air it either. If it wasn't for the fact that most people can get the US network feed [unless it is something like HBO] I think this type of behaviour should be illegal.

Yep I agree, Global didn't want CHUM (City TV/A Channel) to get the rights to Runaway, so they picked it up, they had no plans on airing it.

However the thing is Global ended up helping CHUM because Runaway did awful.

    Sundays starting November 19th

    7:00PM: Reba (RERUNS)
    7:30PM: Reba (ALL NEW EPISODES)
8:00PM: 7th Heaven (ALL NEW EPISODES)
9:00PM: America's Next Top Model (ENCORES)

Well if The CW wanted to kill Reba (which they did) then they did a great job at doing it.

I am puzzled. How does scheduling reruns ahead of new episodes kill a show?

Maybe Reba will do well. Some said only two shows were doing well on the new CW, and they were both formerly UPN shows. By any chance is one of them Veronica Mars? I really hope so.

The 2 UPN shows doing better than last season are America's Next Top Model & WWE Smackdown.

As for Veronica Mars, it's not doing great and doing the same as last season however let's remember that Gilmore Girls is down from last season.

And to be fair Veronica Mars has been going up every week, well until last week when it got a season low :(

Right now it doesn't look like The CW will do anything to Tuesdays because they have bigger things to worry about so I *think* we will see Gilmore Girls & Veronica Mars together all season.

As for Reba, The CW hates the show and the only reason why it was picked up is because if they didn't, they would have to pay FOX (which produces the show) a $20 Million Dollar fine. Now The CW is putting Reba on Sundays from 7-8/6-7c on their lowest rated night, they are pretty much giving the show no lead-in vs VERY tough competion with little to no advertising on their lowest rated night. :(

I already knew all that about Reba. Does anyone know when it will air Global?

Even though Global has the rights to Reba, they have not aired it for a few years now.

I would expect Reba to air this summer on CH.

By the way the 13th episode of Reba is right now called "goodbye" and will be advertised as the final episode unless ratings go up.

It's really sad how The CW is treating this show, remember this was the #1 comedy on The WB for years, and this summer Reba did better than any comedy on The WB or UPN.

Actually, Global aired Reba Saturday mornings, last fall the day after it aired on The WB. I'm hoping NTV will pick up Reba again. I used to watch it at 6:30, convient time for me. ;)

You are right, It didn't air on all Global stations though (I believe it only aired on Global Ontario, Global Maritimes, and NTV)

Expect them to do the same as last year only air it in POST-Release (the weekend after it airs on The CW)

One thing I was wondering about was the American Girl movie franchise. They were owned by Warner Brothers (I thought) and the first two movies aired on the WB. Apparently Molly's movie will air on the Disney Channel. That might have helped improve CW's ratings but I guess they don't own the rights to the movies.

Not sure if The CW is smart enough to air something that would get good ratings :p

It will probally get better ratings on the Disney Channel anyway.

    True, very true. ;)

I just hope I can find someone to tape it for me. I don't know that I would find it in the stores, in Quebec. :(

You may be able to catch it on Canadian TV.

The Family Channel airs pretty much everything from the Disney Channel, also I beleive that CBC aired the Samatha one.

I don't get Family Channel, but I did e-mail them and if Family Channel gets back to me with a when and where I'll ask someone to tape it for me. I got someone to tape the fourth Halloweentown movie for me.

I checked their schedule after the 26th and didn't see it listed. I won't bother checking before since Family will most likely air this Disney movie after it airs on Disney.

As for Samantha, I really don't remember seeing it on their network. I think I have it on tape but I'd rather get the DVD like I did with Felicity. If necessary I can check DVD Planet for Molly.

Either way I'm hoping to watch it soon. :D
