It would also be nice if these Channels
ION
Smile of a Child
Family Net
KVOS Bellingham
The Hub
were being allowed in Canada!!!
It's an interesting case with ION. In recent years, it has become a lot like MyNetworkTV, operating as more of a programming service filtered with reruns of both current and cancelled crime dramas like Without a Trace, Cold Case, Criminal Minds and Psych.
Unlike MyNet, they're at least trying their hand at airing original episodes of shows such as Flashpoint, and soon, the first two seasons of The Listener, both of which are Canadian, and they have WWE Main Event set to debut this fall.

As far as I know, viewers in Canada at this time can only get it through DTV over the air, but it is limited. For instance, In Quebec, there is currently no affiliate within Burlington/Plattsburgh that is affiliated with ION - there was a station back in 2006/2007 but has since gone off the air.
That being said, here is a link showing the stations currently affiliated with ION. Judging from this list, it appears to be accessible for viewers for most markets in Canada, including Southern Ontario, B.C., Alberta, and parts of Atlantic Canada, provided there is great reception with OTA DTV.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of...ion_affiliates
I figure these are some of the ION affiliates that can reach Canada for viewers close to the border:
WPXJ 51 Buffalo (Golden Horseshoe - GTA/Southern Ontario)
WPXD 31 Detroit (Windsor, SW Ontario)
WSPX 56 Syracuse (parts of Southern Ontario)
WVPX 23 Akron/Cleveland (SW Ontario)
KWPX 33 Seattle (Vancouver/Vancouver Island)
KGPX 34 Spokane (Calgary, southern Alberta)
KPXM 41 Minneapolis/St. Paul (Winnipeg, southern Manitoba)
WBGR-LP 33 Bangor (southern New Brunswick)
Any other ION affiliates?
I've caught it a few times, it airs series like Criminal Minds, Psych and Cold Case back to back to back, for the whole primetime and daytime schedule, with a few breaks in between. Its like A&E is with Criminal Minds, but its FTA.
ION Buffalo is one of the more difficult stations to pick up, even on a good day. Its becuase if you tune to 51.1, you'll get OMNI.2 since OMNI.2 operates on that physical channel. ION Buffalo physical channel is 23, but since CW is PSIP placement is also on 23 makes the station hard to pickup. Some TV's in cases like this will put ION Buffalo on 23.2, but you'll lose all PSIP information.
"And Now for Something Completely Different..." - John Cleese (Monty Python).
I always wounder why these channels are still permitted? Surly, Comedy Network and TV Land Canada (now Comedy Gold) would have automatically removed these channels off the list.
Big Ten Network
Comedy Central
The Weather Channel (TWC)
TV Land
I wounder why these channels where added, but never picked up? Its reasonable to assume that (the now defunct) Canwest added Network TEN when it had ownership of the station. But why add it?Network TEN (Australia)
TV3 Republic of Ireland
TV3 Television Network (New Zealand)
TV4 Television Network (New Zealand)
"And Now for Something Completely Different..." - John Cleese (Monty Python).
Owners of WNMN located in Saranac Lake brought WWBI-27 (Pax) and WGMU-39 (WBVT, WB-UPN) and their retransmitters, including W52CD St. Albans, a few years ago. Zap2It lists WMNM-DT-2 sub-channel as ION affiliate, WWBI-LP as ION and WGMU as RTV affiliate.
According to another forum, the Ellenburg and St. Albans transmitters were supposed to be converted to digital early this year, but... we're still waiting.
By the way, Lifetime is also on the list. So, we didn't even need Shaw Media to licence a canadian version.
Comedy Central and TV Land are still in the list, which is a good thing. Otherwise it would be too easy for our Canadian broadcasters to take a low-rated Cat B specialty distributed nowhere, licence the brand for a year for the sole purpose of being pick up by distributors AND get the original removed from the foreign list, then at the end of the year, drop the branding and licence another english-language specialty from the foreign list, rinse and repeat.
The Aussie, NZ and Irish channels would be good imports IF they don't air ANY american shows and if they have significant programming that ain't carried by canadian channels.
We had a good run: 2006 to 2020. Thanks for the informations and debates.
I'm actually curious to know if you can actually get WNMN on a clear day and with a high-quality rooftop antenna, of course depending on where you are.
I'm surprised Zap2It still lists WWBI, seeing that it has been off the air for over five years already. Unless the info on Wikipedia is incorrect, it appears that WNMN-DT-2 is affiliated with Antenna TV. WGMU-CA is more or less a re-broadcaster of WNMN, whose main affiliation is RTV, but carries the following subchannels:
40.1 - Main WNMN programming / RTV
40.2 - Antenna TV / ION?
40.3 - My40 (split between MyNetworkTV / Tuff TV)
40.4 - America One
40.5 - AMGTV
40.6 - RSN (Resort Sports Network, rebranded to Outside TV)
On a side note, The Ellenburg transmitter (W49BI) will no longer operate as its license has been cancelled by the FCC and its call letters have been removed altogether, according to another forum.
