Basically you're damned if you do and you're damned if you don't. That shouldn't stop you from doing what is right though.

His party may have homophobic members in it, but I doubt its his current view (if ever). You also have to remember that Harper, during his youth, was a Liberal supporter before he changed to Reform party. So he's someone who can change his public ideology when needed to suit his personal ideology.
We don't know for sure what his current view on this issue is, all we know is that he refuses to bring the issue up for debate. I know he was pretty adamantly against SSM in the past and voted against it in 2005 when the Liberals passed the legislation. He might have had a change of heart but we don't know that for certain.

Just because someone supports the Liberal Party doesn't necessarily mean they would be for SSM. There were many Liberals who wanted to maintain "traditional marriage".

How does a simple thread about a "classic" movie channel changing its name to align itself with its sister network turn into a thread a bout gay rights and politics?

    Anyways.... back on topic.....

Key points in the press release:
    • Rebrand takes effect Sept 18.
    • Names will become The Movie Network Encore and The Movie Network Encore 2
    • The Movie Network Encore 2 and MFest are both launching in HD on Sept 18.
The name, The Movie Network Encore, I hope they don't actually use that whole name in on-air. It's a little awkward. I'd assume they'd probably go with MEncore like the others.

I do have one issue with their press release though:

With the launch of these two HD services, all of Astral Television's English pay-television offerings are now available in HD.
Disney Junior isn't in HD yet, so technically, not all their pay channels are HD.

I believe that the person who wrote that article was probably referring to the Premium Movie services as the article is about Mpix (soon to become MEncore), so technically they are correct as all of those pay TV channels will be in HD once these two remaining channels launch in Hi Def.

I hope that with this re-brand, Astral will also change the way they sell these two channels. I would like to see them sold separately, as standalone channels- most providers still bundle Mpix & MorePix with the other TMN channels. Shaw Direct currently offer Encore Avenue in their essentials package for customers out west, I would like to see some thing similar for customers in Eastern Canada. I think this would be a smart move, a way to compete head on with Hollywood Suite- especially if they have films from all major studios?!

    My eyes are up here!

Based on the way it's spelled, MEncore looks like it might be another hardcore porn channel, so even though The Movie Network Encore is a mouthful (minds out of the gutter, please), MEncore is tougher for me to swallow (another gutterball thrown by yours truly).

Instead of rebranding, it would be nice to come up with better names in the first place.

Does our IFC have anything to do with the American version? Not much. It's time to rebrand that channel as well. Call it IFU Encore (I Fu@ked U) to better represent the lovely nudity it airs during the encore airings of Californication, Weeds, Secret Diary of a Call Girl, Body Language, Webdreams, and The Girl's Guide to Depravity (one of the few shows that hasn't aired on TMN -- at least I don't think it has). Our IFC is basically another version of MEncore ... a channel for men interested in the boobs on the tube.

    Extra Note:

DejaView will soon become DejaPooh ... The world's first channel devoted to Winnie the Pooh.
