    Icon4 The Channel Canada Forums are back online!

    Hi everyone,

    I hope you’re having a wonderful holiday season!

    I’ve maintaining a TV related website in some form or another for 20 years now and I was quite surprise that it didn’t happen sooner. As you know, the internet is filled with malicious people who are there just waiting for the moment you fall behind in updates to hack your site. Well, they have finally caught up with me. :(

    The forums seemed unaffected but as a precaution, I have taken it offline to prevent infection. I also reinstalled the forums from scratch as if it was infected just in case and put the code up to date. Unfortunately, the theme we had didn’t agree with the new version so I chose another. Finally, I have moved the forums to its independent files system, hense the new URL: discuss.channelcanada.com.

    The news site will reopen soon as well with a brand new look.

    I thank you for your patience and understanding. Feel free to PM me if you have comments of questions with the new version of the forums.

    P.S.: I'm aware some of the old emoticons are missing, I'll get to that once the news site is back up.

    I'm glad the forums are back . I don't enjoy the new look at all . I come here for the forums and to find out what is upcoming on various networks..
    The front page seems to have only stories from months back and nothing very current and the switching images looks more like an ad (although i admit many websites seem to think this a great feature ) Anyways the design to me makes finding anything more difficult . I will continue with the forums for posting of upcoming schedules and for the man with a thousand and one tells .

    I'm not sure what you're complaining about, the forums or the main website, or both? If it is the forums, you can switch to the default theme. The selector is on the lower right part of the page. (Select "vb4 Default Style"). Maybe you'll like this theme better...

    If it is the main site, there is still work to be done and I'm way behind in posting news. I should get this back on track in january.

    Thanks for taking the time to post your comments!

    The forums are basically what they have been for a while now with the most recent posts and then the separate threads which is fine .
    My negative comment was about the main site . It just feels scattered and not very informative . Perhaps when the posting is up to date the site will feel more readable since i will then actually have something to peruse . Website design is obviously a difficult undertaking .

    I have one issue with the Channel Canada website, browsing the site takes up to 10 seconds between pages :
    * Waiting for Facebook...
    * Waiting for ads Google...
    * Waiting for Twitter...

    It's taking forever !!!

    Not to forget the news spinwheel or whatever you call it (IIHF, Nelson, Space, TSN, etc.) that always appears on top, which is useless to display beyond page 1.

    Thanks so much for your comments. To tell you the truth, the new site wasn't ready to put online but due to the hack, I was forced to change the theme and "move up the schedule". On top of that, I had little time to work on it (hense the lack of updates).

    For the loading issue, I'm not seeing this on my end. Anybody else is experiencing the loading issue? I average 4 seconds loading time on Chrome and IE11.

    the good news is, the spinwheel as you call it has been removed except on the main page. :)

    Just to let you know that I've fixed the boken images for the emoticons on the forums.

    Also, the Primetime Tonight grid on the news site is back online.

    Finally, Fall TV Preview is running normally again.

    Thanks for mentionning the problem!

    If it still displays a 404 (page not found), it may be a caching issue as it is working fine on chrome and IE on two different PC's on my end.
    I've cleared the site's cache so please try it again. If you're still experiencing problems, please let me know more precisely what is the actuel problem (404, no pop up, popup with blank page, etc)

    Hey, welcome back, forum ! It was down for mostly the whole day of August 14, I guess due to DNS problems with the hosting company. Randi should have more details...

    P.S.: What's the point of locked forum section "Channel Canada News" at the bottom ?

    I can confirm that I had server problem on that day so the site was on and off mostly in the morning.

    As for the "Channel Canada News" forum, it enables you to view quickly view the titles and excepts of new posts on the main channelcanada.com site. It was meant for something else but I dropped this idea so the description isn't correct. I'll add it in my TODO's!

    Seems like the hosting company is experiencing problems since the new year... The whole channelcanada.com domain remains unaccessible for a whole 18 to 24 hours at times, intermittent, so we're greeted with an error 500, then a Cloudflare error message with 3 pictures telling us it's not reaching its destination.

    Randi, I hope your hosting company has a good explanation.
