The whole system has to be becoming increasingly irrelevant. It's about nothing except setting TV advertising rates, and the amount of TV advertising is understandably shrinking rapidly.

I heard someone talking about how radio ratings are still gathered in exactly the same way they have been for decades and why Numeris is advertising to encourage people to help them. They phone people and have to get them to agree to have a book sent to them in the mail, and mail it back after filling it out for a week. Think about that. When was the last time you saw a white pages phone directory? How many people no longer have land lines? Who answers phone calls unless you recognize the number and are in a mood to talk? Who still writes out things to be put into envelopes to be mailed?
I assume they must now have some kind of slightly better way to attempt to compile TV ratings, but is it any surprise that what results they can get now may be mostly skewing to be from people over 50?

Sometime in the last couple of years it was mentioned that the median age of Fox News channel viewers in the US was somewhere over 65. More recent articles have it at 68.8, and an average age of over 70 for some shows on the channel.

    Noteworthy...

    - The Grey Cup is top rated this week, but its 2+ total viewers number is lower than a new episode of Big Bang Theory (it was a rerun that week).
    - Grimm is back in the Top 30 for its 6th episode. Last time Grimm made the Top 30, it was the season premiere.
    - State of Affairs, which premiere was at the near bottom of the Top 30, didn't make it this week.
    - Saving Hope is back after a month off, but lost 200k viewers compared to its fall run.
    - I don't understand what The McCarthys is still doing there.
We had a good run: 2006 to 2020. Thanks for the informations and debates.

Grey Cup TV ratings this year apparently decreased by 14% after a 17% decrease the previous year. That's a big drop over just two years. A recent survey also pointed out what everyone already knew, that the people who do watch are an older demographic (CFL facing demographic dilemma ... Trooper ... party like it's 1979), particularly outside of the prairie provinces.
I still go to one or two games a year, and have seen that happening in Toronto for maybe the last 20 or 30 years. They now announce attendance numbers of something like 18,000 that people laugh at because there is obviously less than half that many in the stadium, and a radio commenter said they had only 3000 season tickets sold, although the team or league won't confirm or deny the number. And almost all of the crowd is middle-aged or older.
