‘Simpsons’ To Launch On FXX With 12-Day Marathon; App Expected To Debut

Cowabunga! To launch the first run of veteran animated series “The Simpsons” on cable in August, FXX intends to start things with a bang: A 12-day marathon of the series’ 552-episode run.

“It will be the longest continuous marathon in the history of television,” said Jon Landgraf, chief executive of FX Networks, at an upfront presentation held in New York Wednesday. A new app is expected to debut in coming weeks, and while executives at the presentation suggested the name “Simpsons World” had been bandied about, FX Networks spokesman John Solberg said a name for the digital outlet was “not formalized yet.” The app would be distinct from FX’s “FXNow” mobile-viewing application already available.

Apparently, the uninterrupted 12-days marathon, 48 episodes per day, will lead to a new episode on August 31, before labor's day, september 1st.

Edit : No way FXX Canada will run such marathon, cancon requirements...

I think FXX could do it if they "catch up" on Cancon in subsequent weeks. I think the real thing that will prevent FXX from doing it is the fact that MuchMusic has the cable rights to Simpsons episodes.

Yeah, FXX Canada only gets original FXX programming, not syndicated programming the U.S. FXX acquires like The Simpsons
