TVO to shutter all transmitters except for Toronto

TVO has announced that it will be shuttering all transmitters except for the Toronto area transmitter effective July 31st 2017

The affected communities include; Windsor, Chatham, London, Kitchener, Thunder Bay, Belleville, Cloyne and Ottawa.

Slowly but surely OTA is dying off in Canada. How long before Corus, Rogers and Bell get to shutdown all their stations and become cable only.

Great start, but how about sell it off altogether. What value does TVO and especially TFO bring in today's age in Ontario? There's so many options for educational and current affairs programs with the internet and the plethora of other channels, that it should be sold off. This isn't an essential service the government needs to taking part in. Take a cue from Alberta and Saskatchewan and toss it out.

Turns out, now TVO will be keeping all of its transmitters because the Ontario government will be giving them an extra $1 million in funding to keep them in operation.

Of course, just throw more money at it instead of forcing them to restructure and lower costs in some other ways. TVO certainly called them for the suckers they were, just threatening to close and get more more out of them.
