I'm impressed that Bell Media actually put out the summer schedules on time this year, not only for CTV and CTV Two but also for their core specialty channels (some of them now have schedules for June, July and even August).

Last year, barely any of the schedules were updated. From what I recall, CTV only released their summer schedule in July and by that time, the one they put out was no longer valid.

Though it was not initially mentioned in their summer schedule press release, CTV picked up Steve Harvey's FUNDERDOME which will air Sunday nights on ABC, although I figure it won't be until sometime in early July. The show is set to premiere on June 11, but CTV has the Tony Awards scheduled for that evening. Then the following week on June 18, there's the iHeartRadio MMVAs, though the ABC show may be pre-empted for that evening only if the NBA Finals reach Game 7. Finally, on June 25, CTV has the premiere of Canada in a Day.

Anyways, CTV is sorely lacking in new sitcoms. Seriously, other than The Big Bang Theory, what else has been a regular fixture in their schedule as of late?

CTV has been playing hide and go seek with The Goldbergs all season. The first episodes aired on CTV Two then ended up moving back to CTV on Thursdays after Big Bang Theory. In February, it got bumped to Sunday evenings in post-release after the cancelled sitcom Powerless took its place on Thursdays. On several occasions, original episodes were pre-empted by live specials such as the Oscars and Junos but they eventually made it to air. And just as new episodes were set to return, it got bumped again for new episodes of Lucifer airing in pre-release. It makes a return for one week on Sunday with the actual season finale, with three other episodes remaining on the shelf. Presumably, those episodes will air at some point this summer in the Sunday 8:30pm timeslot - or they'll just simply follow the weekly reruns on ABC, leaving those episodes to air only later in the summer.

The same goes for the only other new sitcom in their lineup, American Housewife. They buried it on Saturday nights, sandwiched between reruns of Big Bang Theory and Mike & Molly. It had a one-time airing on Thursday before disappearing from the schedule and initially appearing on CTV Two over the holidays in a sporadic manner. Then it remained on CTV Two through March, airing in simulcast with ABC. As The Flash moved over to CTV Two, American Housewife was dumped back to CTV on Saturday nights, but that did not last long as it moved back to CTV Two airing in post-release on Friday nights.

Let's not forget about the midseason series Trial & Error. Though it aired on CTV for the majority of its first season, they snuck in a couple of new episodes on CTV Two for one week in April but that was only known at the very last minute. Of course, this was due to an extended, two-hour episode of The Voice and CTV ran into conflicts with a new episode of Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.

Until recently, they had the rights to a couple of sitcoms, which have since ended their runs:
Hot in Cleveland, which has since been replaced by same-day encores of The Social on several affiliates, but continues to be running on CTV Montreal.
Anger Management, which has been airing reruns on CTV Two but is being replaced by Seinfeld reruns.

Mike & Molly also ended its run last year, but still remains on the schedule with reruns from its sixth and final season.

They previously had The Odd Couple but that went to City - in the end, it was no loss for CTV since that show went on to be cancelled.

Here's hoping that Bell Media had better luck with acquiring new sitcoms for CTV and CTV Two this fall season. Looking at the season that just ended, City has the most in their lineup among the Canadian networks. Global got pretty lucky this past season thanks to Kevin Can Wait and Man with a Plan, both of which were renewed by CBS, in addition to The Good Place from NBC. Prior to this past season, the only sitcom they had was NBC's Superstore.

Well they will most likely get Young Sheldon but besides that, if they want to simulcast, there isn't really anything else for them to grab. But rating wise, besides TBBT, not much makes any waves in Canada I think.

But I don't understand that they chose to have a show from 20 years+ ago in prime time. Maybe CTV two, and even then...They could show repeats or originals from their Comedy Central deal.

CTV should use the summer months to run some CraveTV originals and exclusives, or even previous seasons of Space original programming.

Last summer, they ran Season 1 of Killjoys on Sunday evenings and Season 1 of Amazon crime drama Bosch on Thursdays. They don't have the option to run a season encore of Orphan Black as they did in past summers since the new season only begins in early June.

What about Letterkenny? They aired an encore of the series premiere after the Super Bowl, so why not show at least the entire first season? I'm guessing they don't have room for it at 10:00pm and the show's content would not be suitable for 8:00pm.

Here's a list of other shows that could be used as a second window for broadcast on CTV following their original runs on CraveTV:
    - Shut Eye
    - Casual
    - Snatched

Saving Hope series finale airs Aug 3rd. CTV still don't know what to air thu Aug 10th at 9pm. There are 6 weeks to fill between aug 10 and sept 14.

Saturday nights are occupied by Hallmark's "Garage Sale Mystery" TV movie series, filmed in BC and produced by Front Street Pictures, which MAY count as cancon. My prediction ? Saving Hope reruns will remain in that slot for august to balance their yearly cancon quota to the minimum level. Come september, TBBT reruns of whatever special they can come up with until the season begins.

Looking at the schedule on their website, CTV has made an update and will be airing the first season encore of Cardinal beginning next Thursday at 9:00pm presumably for the remaining six weeks through September 14. So at least no additional Big Bang reruns for a change and another opportunity to catch up on the original CanCon mini-series that premiered last winter. Keep in mind that CTV originally scheduled an encore of Cardinal for Saturday 10:00pm this fall before it returns midseason, unless that has changed...

Interestingly enough, CTV has not been airing same week encores for new episodes of original CanCon shows like 19-2 and Saving Hope. But they have been airing encores of Motive, a show that ended last summer, on Fridays. Expect those encores to turn up Saturday nights this fall on CTV Two.

Fast forward to Thursday September 21 and that night will mark the season 4 premiere of Gotham. Since Grey's Anatomy will not be premiering the new season until the following week on September 28, CTV could use this one time only opportunity to simulcast Gotham with FOX but as long as CBS has The Big Bang Theory on the air that evening, they will more likely air it at either 7:00pm or in post-release at 9:00pm, subsequently becoming its regularly scheduled timeslot.

The Big bang Theory actually has 2 episodes on CBS that night (sep 21), at 8pm and 9pm.

I noticed that. I would not be surprised if CTV ends up showing another two hour block of Big Bang reruns just so they can simulcast with CBS at 8:00pm and 9:00pm, with two bonus episodes thrown in. If that's the case, they will just air the season premiere of Gotham in pre-release at 7:00pm. This appears to make more sense to them.

    Other alternative options:
Have the Gotham season premiere at 8:00pm in simulcast with FOX for one time only and pre-release the Big Bang 8:00pm episode at 7:30pm. Follow with another block of Big Bang reruns including simulcast at 9:00pm.

Simulcast Big Bang rerun at 8:00pm and pre-release the second episode at 8:30pm followed by Gotham in post-release at 9:00pm. Then again, this makes absolutely no sense to me for CTV to run not just a new episode, but the season premiere of a returning show in post-release out of simulcast just so they simulcast reruns of their highest-rated show.

This will be the only time that CTV will get to simulcast Gotham all season (barring a timeslot change) as Grey's Anatomy runs at 8:00pm until November, when Big Bang/Young Sheldon take over and Grey's gets bumped earlier to 7:00pm.

But hey, if CTV is convinced that Big Bang reruns simulcast on CBS will fare better than the season premiere of Gotham in simulcast with FOX, then call me crazy...lol

    You're crazy !
Gotham is a goner. It's scheduled in post-release at 9pm only because there's nothing else to simsub at 9pm, otherwise it would have found a simsub home on CTV Two, if there was no football...

Also noteworthy, Grey's Anatomy season premiere Sept 28 will be 2-hours, leading to HTGAWM. But, wrong thread...

That is true. However on the 21st, you have reruns of Big Bang Theory on CBS, the season premiere of Gotham and the season finale of Zoo. And CTV Two will probably be carrying football.

So predictably, CTV's lineup that evening will likely be Gotham (in pre-release), two hours of Big Bang Theory reruns (just so they can simulcast with CBS at 8:00pm and 9:00pm) and the season (perhaps series) finale of Zoo.

Yes, I can see why CTV scheduled Gotham at 9:00pm for the reasons you stated above. I was just saying that there will be just that one opportunity on September 21 for them to air it at the same time as FOX. They don't have anything new to simulcast at 8:00pm that evening - other than the Big Bang reruns already on CBS. But why waste that opportunity? Oh right, because those reruns will post better ratings than the Gotham season premiere. There's no denying this could very well happen, but regardless, Gotham is already in trouble.

Completely forgot about the Grey's Anatomy season premiere being two hours. If that's the case, CTV will likely air Gotham in pre-release at 7:00pm on the 28th.

I figured all along that Gotham was destined for CTV Two had they not picked up Thursday Night Football.

That being said, Gotham will air in its regular 9:00pm timeslot starting Thursday October 5. Unless they change course and decide to keep it in pre-release at 7:00pm for a short period of time. Then maybe fill the 9:00pm slot with CanCon original series The Indian Detective, which is slated for a very short run of only four episodes, so that would run through the end of October. By November, Grey's is pushed earlier to 7:00pm, followed by Big Bang/Young Sheldon and then Gotham in post-release.

(sarcasm mode : on) Hey, great news for you, TBBT-obsessed fans ! (sarcasm mode : off)
Cardinal ends its thursday 9pm 6-episode rerun on Sept 14, which means there will be 2 full hours of TBBT reruns on thu Sept 21 before the Zoo finale at 10pm.
