[PR] Global 2017/2018 Primetime Schedule

NBC’s Thursday primetime lineup is set to go on hiatus for six weeks of Thursday Night Football and run through the holiday season from November 9 to December 14.

As expected, Global has nothing to simsub except CBS's SWAT at 10pm, so they scheduled Xmas movies 8pm to 10pm.
Could have expected that schedule hole since last may, and opted for a cancon rerun or a Showcase/W Network show...

Over Citytv, well, CBS's Mom and Life in Pieces air at the same time as Fox's Orville. The sitcoms are scheduled in pre-release at 8pm.

Chicago Med is coming back on NBC tuesdays 10pm starting Nov 21, taking over the slot left by 8-eps series L&O:TC.

So instead of airing Med either in simulcast or in pre-release at 7pm, Global came up with this :
- Chicago Med in pre-release mondays 9pm
- Those two CBS sitcoms in simsub mondays at 9pm (Donuts and 9JKL) are now in post-release thursdays at 8pm. Reruns of W&G and Superstore will fill the schedule hole at 9pm before the SWAT simsub with CBS.
- Thursday night Xmas movies are banished to saturday nights, taking over Hallmark's "Flower Shop Mystery" movie series.

Chicago Med's last episode for December is on the 12th for NBC (11th for Global).

Over CBS, their monday night lineup is all-new on monday Dec 18th.
You'd expect Global to put Donuts and 9JKL back in simsub this time, right ? Naaaah ! With a schedule hole at 10pm, they decided to put on a 2-hours Xmas movie starting at 9pm.

I just noticed this, NBC scheduled 2 new episodes of Great News tomorrow Dec 21 at 8pm and 8:30pm, followed by a 2-hours SNL Xmas special. And another new episode Dec 28 at 9:30pm. Normally, NBC schedules new episodes of shows they don't like between xmas and new year's day...

Anyways, Global will air SNL at 8pm followed by CBS's SWAT at 10pm in simulcast, and on Dec 28, Global scheduled a movie. They hid those 2 Great News episodes on January 1st at 10pm and 10:30pm. The Dec 28 original episode ain't showing up yet in Global's schedule.

Dec 28th update : Looks like Global will shelf the Dec 28th episode of Great News and air it when you least expect it, as usual...

From a practical point if view, Chicago Fire is better off thursdays at 7pm so it can get swapped in simulcast at 10pm whenever CBS decides to schedule a SWAT rerun. But CF is taking an Olympics break during february sweeps (Feb 1st, break, March 1st). Problem, whenever the 7 to 8pm slot is used for a pre-release, ET Canada ain't shown and there's a 30-minutes missing towards cancon requirements. Also, last fall, reruns of Undercover Boss Canada were fulfilling a 1-hour cancon requirement on friday 10pm slot. This winter, with the cancon variable moved wednesdays 8pm (Mary Kills People), the friday 10pm slot can now be used for post-releases.

Interesting. AXN's new TV series Absentia premieres sunday Jan 21 on Showcase. On thursday that same week, CBS scheduled a rerun of SWAT, so Global will air Chicago Fire in simulcast, and, you saw it coming... the friday Jan 26 10pm slot will be used to air the series premiere of Absentia.

Speaking of Chicago Fire, after its Feb 1st episode (Feb 2nd on Global), it's taking a break due to the Olympics and comes back March 1st. During those 3 weeks, CBS has 2-hours format of Big Brother fridays 8pm to 10pm pre-empting MacGyver and Hawaii 5-0, followed by probably reruns of Blue Blood at 10pm. Don't know yet how Global will fill that 10pm slot.

Global picked up Fox's show 9-1-1, episode 4 will air in simulcast this week since CBS' SEAL Team is pre-empted by a 2-hours Amazing Race. Further episodes will most likely be posted online, just like "Taken" on friday nights.

NBC's sitcom A.P. Bio has also been picked up by Global, there's a page for it on Global's website announcing the premiere on thursday Feb 1st.

About aforementioned missing Dec 28 episode of Great News, it finally showed up on the schedule : During the Superbowl !

Edit : Dec 18 episodes of Superior Donuts and 9JKL left on the shelf are scheduled for the previous sunday, Jan 28, during the Grammys on CBS.

OK, Zap2It got updated (but global.ca's Schedule section is outdated?). On Wed Jan 31, CBS' SEAL Team is sent in pre-release at 7pm while 9-1-1 is in simulcast.

Global posted the first 3 episodes online this morning.

On Wed Feb 7th, CBS scheduled a Big Brother Celebrity Edition at 8pm, and Global still have to simsub Fox's 9-1-1 and NBC's Chicago PD... bumping Mary Kills People S2 finale.
On Thu Feb 8th, NBC has the Olympic games, so Global rescheduled the MKP finale on that night at 9pm, after another BB:CE simsub at 8pm.

W Network is running the first four episodes starting Sunday, January 28 at 7:00pm. Perhaps Global will air the earlier episodes at some point during the Olympics with most of their regular schedule being pre-empted.

Global will get to airing the first three episodes of 9-1-1 during the Olympics.
FOX will be airing reruns for two weeks, including an encore of the pilot episode.

Tonight (monday) on CBS, there's a new episode of Superior Donuts followed by the -hopefully- series finale of 9JKL. Since CBS has new eps of NCIS-Bull-NCIS:NO tomorrow, Global felt like they had to air tomorrow's Chicago Med in pre-release, tonight at 9pm, pre-empting CBS sitcoms, like the previous weeks. Fine. Mondays 10pm used to be NBC's The Brave, it's over and done since last monday, (NBC has an Olympics special tonight) so Global schedulers scratched their heads and decided to put a Chicago PD rerun from last year.

I don't see a re-occurence of SD and 9JKL on Global for the next 13 days. Worse, next monday Feb 12, CBS has a Celebrity Big Brother at 8pm which Global will simsub, and reruns of SD & 9JKL at 9pm, but Global will put on an NCIS:NO rerun at 9pm instead. I don't watch those sitcoms but c'mon Global, just burn them already !
