Some takeaways from the press release and other notes:

    - Global is opting to shelve its one hour of Monday comedy block (Superior Dounts and 9JKL) in favour of new episodes of Chicago Med airing in pre-release one night ahead of NBC. Also on the shelf is returning NBC midseason drama Taken, originally scheduled for Fridays 10:00pm in post-release. But with Chicago Fire occupying that timeslot (having been bumped by S.W.A.T. from Thursday), suddenly it has no place on the schedule. .

    - Other benched programming includes NBC game show The Wall (Mondays at 8:00pm) which will likely air there for two weeks until Kevin Can Wait and Man with a Plan both return from their holiday hiatus. NBC reality show Better Late Than Never first aired after the Summer Olympic Games in 2016, and returns for Season 2 airing Mondays at 9:00pm but since Global has Chicago Med currently scheduled there...

At this point, I would expect many of these shows to come off the shelf during the Olympics in February - most of Global's regular schedule comes from NBC which will be pre-empted during that time.

    - There is also a second season of the drama Ransom on tap, probably slated for later in the year when CBS gets to announcing a premiere date and timeslot.

    - New midseason shows debuting in January that have not been picked up by a Canadian broadcaster thus far: 9-1-1 (FOX) and Child Support (ABC). I figured that none of these shows would find room on Global's lineup to begin with.

    - Like most of The CW shows not already picked up by major broadcasters in Canada, the latest newcomer Black Lightning (premiering January 16) will be streaming on Netflix. I figured that this would have been picked up for Showcase.

    LOCK UP YOUR SCHEDULE CANADA!
BIG BROTHER CANADA RETURNS WEDNESDAY, MARCH 7 ON GLOBAL

With three recent Canadian Screen Award (CSA) nominations – including Best Reality/Competition Series – the perennial fan favourite returns three nights a week on Wednesdays at 7 p.m. ET/PT, Thursdays at 8 p.m. ET/PT, and Mondays at 9 p.m. ET/PT on Global.

    http://www.corusent.com/news/lock-sc...arch-7-global/

    Now we have airtimes.
On thursday 8pm, NBC has Superstore + Champions + Will & Grace + A.P. Bio. Just like last year, Superstore was shelved and burned later.
Monday 9pm shelves Superior Donuts, something Global had done multiple times, but was a slot also used by Chicago Med due to scheduling conflict with NCIS:NO on CBS. Med could go tue 7pm, but that would reduce the ET & ET:CA down to 3 airings per week due to BB:CA wed at 7pm.

Chicago Med will probably be pushed to Monday 10:00pm. It doesn’t look like NBC newcomer Good Girls has been picked up by any Canadian broadcaster and went to Netflix, plus CTV already has The Good Doctor/The Crossing from ABC and City has Scorpion (through late April). Also, Elementary returns in the same timeslot on April 30.

Big Brother Canada’s return will also conflict with SEAL Team and 9-1-1 at least for three weeks (until March 21). Now that 9-1-1 currently has bragging rights for the Wednesday 9:00pm timeslot in simulcast, SEAL Team probably gets benched during that time.

GLOBAL ADDS INSPIRING NEW DRAMA RISE TO ITS MIDSEASON SCHEDULE BEGINNING MARCH 13
Based on a True Story, the Heartfelt Series is from Friday Night Lights and Parenthood’s Jason Katims and Hamilton’s Jeffrey Seller

The 10-epsiode Emotional Drama Stars Josh Radnor, Rosie Perez, Auli’i Cravalho, Canadian Amy Forsyth and More

Toronto, Canada – Following Global’s recent acquisitions for 9-1-1 and A.P. Bio, the network adds another highly anticipated and buzz-worthy series Rise to its robust midseason schedule. Premiering in a special preview Tuesday, March 13 at 10 p.m. ET/PT on Global, Rise is a heartening new drama about finding inspiration in unexpected places.
    http://www.corusent.com/news/global-...ning-march-13/

NBC's series premiere of Rise is at 10pm, right after the season finale of This Is Us, and takes its 9pm slot the week after. CBS's NCIS:NO is a new episode that week so it'll likely get bumped to 7pm. NBC's Chicago Med is coming back the week after at 10pm, which mean Global has 5 shows to juggle with on tuesdays, with a few CBS-shows reruns expected until the may sweeps.

Maybe it's just me, but I think "Rise" won't be a ratings hit.

Looks like NBC swapped AP Bio and Champions. Chamions premieres March 8 at 9:30pm and keeps that timeslot.

On Global, Big Brother Canada gets the 8pm slot meaning Superstore remains shelved and AP Bio gets a post-release airing at 9:30pm, so only Will & Grace gets simsubbed.

On Jan 17, CBS moved the series premiere of Instinct to March 18, at 8pm. The previous slot tenant was the now cancelled "Wisdom of the Crowd".

Starting March 11, NBC's Timeless S2 premieres at 10pm, TV Listings for that night indicates Madam Secretary was shifted in pre-release at 8pm on Global.
Scheduling conflict for March 18. Global previously shifted Madam Secretary to friday 10pm but that slot is currently used by Chicago Fire... They could also shift Secretary to 7pm and shelf Simpsons ? All other "free" slots are occupied by BBCAN...

Global right now has way too many shows for the slots they have. They should move some shows to Showcase or W instead of having them all over the place. I think Madam Secretary would fit perfectly with The Good Fight on W.

Ransom return to CBS on April 7, Saturdays @ 8pm. I presume Global will simulcast since nothing is new on Saturdays.

I'm betting that in hindsight, the now-defunct Canwest's decision to deep-six CH/E! isn't looking so good now...

    Vancouver problems...

Canwest was operating CJNT Montreal with an ethnic licence and could use only use 1 hour per night during primetime for US shows. During season 2005-2006, NCIS season 3 was dumped to CH in pre-release mondays at 10pm... except for the Mtl station.
As for the ethnic shows, they had an ugly set in a studio, hired hosts speaking a language, invited guests and filmed them talking during an hour. The next show, same set, different host, different language, and talk for an hour... CJNT was eventually sold to Channel Zero for 1$ in 2009, looping the same Canwest-produced 2002-04 studio ethnic shows. Rogers came to the rescue in 2012 with Omni & City programming, CFHD (ICI) was created, CJNT became a full-time Citytv station.

Canwest dropping CH/E! was for the best. It was ridiculous Bell and Canwest were both operating two networks/systems and snatching primetime shows away from each other while audiences were generally in decline... Declining audiences is the result of The WB and UPN merging operations back in 2006... Nowadays, many The CW shows have less than a million live viewers while back in 2004, a WB show with 3 million viewers was doomed for cancellation.

Due to Bell, Corus and Rogers owning almost all local stations, independently-owned stations and affiliates such as CHEK Victoria, CKPR Thunder Bay or CITL Lloydminster, are barely surviving.

Tonight, ABC has a 2-hours premiere of Shonda's Station 19, so NBC counter-programs this with a 2-hours Chicago Fire (pre-empting Will & Grace and Champions), which Global will simsub. There's basketball on CBS so SWAT is taking a break this week. Since Global scheduled Big Brother Canada at 8pm, this leaves NBC's "AP Bio" episode 7 on the shelf. Superstore is shelved indefinately as previously mentionned.

Tomorrow 8pm, there's the post-release of yesterday's SEAL Team which will regain its simsub wed 9pm slot since 9-1-1's season finale was yesterday... and follwoed by Madam Secretary friday at 10pm. Speaking of Madam and next wednesday, NBC pre-empts Chicago PD, so Madam takes the wed 10pm slot on March 28, and therefor, on friday march 29 at 10pm is where you'll find Chicago Fire in post-release...

Then on sunday Apr 1st, NBC has a Jesus Christ Superstar special, pre-empting Timeless, so Global will simsub Madam with CBS.
On monday Apr 2nd at 8pm, CBS paired a TBBT/YS reruns, so Global opted to burn Superior Donuts (S2E12, Feb 5th) and 9JKL (S1E16 series finale, Feb 5th).

Edit : On thu Apr 5th at 9:30pm, Zap2It lists a post-release of Superstore instead of AP Bio on Global, after the Will & Grace season finale. NBC hasn't yet revealed which sitcom will occupy the 9pm slot until mid-may.
Guess ratings for AP Bio are worse than Superstore, but a problem of episodes left on the shelf remains...

Edit2: On mon Apr 9 at 10pm, Global scheduled a rerun of the Ransom S2 premiere, which is held the previous saturday at 8pm simsubbing CBS. The next day, tuesday, CBS scheduled some Elton John Grammy 2-hours special, so Global can simsub Chicago Med with NBC instead of a monday 10pm pre-release...

Edit3: Despite a recent on-air promo for "action friday nights" on Global" (McG+5-0+CF), they decided to schedule, on thu Apr 12, Chicago Fire in pre-release at 9pm (NBC has a W&G rerun + Champions), and kept Madam Secretary on friday Apr 13 at 10pm. Oh well...

Edit4: CBS has the Country Music Awards on sun Apr 15, so obviously, NBC's Timeless is the only show in simsub. One could have predicted Fox's Simpsons in simulcast at 8pm followed by burnoff of 3 shelved sitcom episodes, but no, they kept Simpsons in pre-release at 7:30pm and scheduled an X-Men movie at 8pm.

Edit5: On mon Apr 23, CBS opted for a lineup of reruns TBBT+YS+Mom, a new ep of Biblically, and a Carpool Karaoke special (Elementary S6 premieres Apr 30), so Global will use the 8pm slot to burn episodes of Donuts (S2E15, Mar 19), and Superstore (S3E14, Mar 8). And in case you're wondering, CTV is busy with NBC's Voice while CTV2 is busy with ABC's Idol, so Bell won't simsub TBBT+YS that night... Unless CTV2 pushes Idol at 9pm... Oh, this is a Global thread, sorry.

As expected, Elementary is coming back monday Apr 30th at 10pm on CBS, which Global will simsub, a slot previously used by Chicago Med in pre-release. I eventually found Med, tuesday at 7pm, but NBC's Rise is nowhere to be found... for now. Big Brother Canada occupies all timeslots where a show can be time-shifted and when we reach the last week of april / 1st week of may, it's a mess as all shows on all networks are new episodes for the may sweeps. BBcan should wrap early.

Also, NBC removed Taken S2 from the friday night schedule, remaining 5 episodes will be burned starting saturday May 26... but there are hockey playoffs... Doesn't change much for Global as the episodes are online exclusive.

Edit : Found it ! NBC's Rise scheduled for May 1st is bumped to saturday May 5th at 10pm on Global.. The evening starts with Ransom in simulcast with CBS at 8pm followed by a HGTV filler "Home to win" at 9pm... Go figure.

Edit2: Same scenario on tue May 8th for NBC's Rise, most likely the following saturday. On that night marks CBS's Bull season finale, but the following tuesday May 15h, CBS scheduled a 2-hours season finale of NCIS:NO, while NBC's Chicago Med will be its season finale at 10pm in pre-release at 7pm, so don't expect Rise season finale on tuesday night (again) on Global. Speaking of 2-hours finale, NBC's Chicago Fire on thu May 10, and all sitcoms pre-empted that night (SVU rerun at 8pm). Global scheduled the 2-hours BBCAN finale followed by a simsub of CBS's SWAT. Where to reschedule CF... in 2 parts or 1x2h?

Edit3: With MacGyver done by May 4, Undercover Boss takes over May 11 on CBS. Global scheduled... drumroll... 2x Border Security, what else... And on saturday May 12, Global has Ransom s-CBS, an HGTV filler and last tuesday's NBC's Rise in post-release. There are obviously 2 seperate hours for NBC's CF to be used. Guess since BBCAN is over, the slots released he following week will be used for season finales and burn-offs.

Edit4: On sun May 13, NBC scheduled a 2-hours series finale of Timeless starting at 9pm. On that day, Global simsubs NBC's golf until 7pm, followed by local news at 7pm and as usual, Simpsons at 7:30pm, Instinct (s-CBS) and NCIS:LA (s-CBS), and the first hour of Timeless. Obviously, they can't simsub NBC's Timeless ep10 at 10pm with ep9. It would make more sense to simsub Madam Secretary and schedule the remaining 2 Timeless episodes later during the week. Chicago Fire 2h finale is already on the shelf, waiting. On mon May 14, Global burns Superior (S2E16, Mar 26), simsubs Man w/ Plan, then Chicago Med finale in pre-release at 9pm and simsubs Elementary at 10pm.

Edit5: Since Med airs in pre-release monday, I expected NBC's Rise season finale on tue May 15 to air in pre-release at 7pm on Global... But listings have the usual ET+ETCan at 7pm. Rise finale saturday night ?

Edit6: Timeless ep 10 is scheduled for Wed May 16 at 10pm on Global. Chicago PD was done the previous week...

Chicago Fire 2-hours season 6 finale was finally scheduled the following thursday, May 17 at 8pm, then SWAT finale s-CBS at 10pm.

Edit1: On sat May 19, CBS scheduled a Markle wedding 2h special, pre-empting a Ransom episode. Global will air a rerun, an HGTV filler and NBC's Rise finale at 10pm.

Edit2: On mon May 21 start at 8pm with another Donuts episode to be burned, Man w/ Plan finale in simulcast, then at 9pm, instead of burning more shelved sitcoms, Global scheduled another Ransom rerun. If last summer was any indication, Global will likely slowly burn sitcoms during july and august, or in timeslots you never expected, like saturday/sunday at 1pm...

Edit3: If you expected any sitcom burn-off starting thu May 24 (like Superstore, AP Bio, etc.), hmmm, Global scheduled some 3-hours Star Wars movie that night.

... so I PVR'ed Timeless 9pm to 11pm on NBC and moved on. Golf is just like Football, too many non-action minutes, and when it's finally over, post-game blah-blahs is never-ending, so I suspected something and there it was when I hit Play on the PVR, 14 minutes of a game-show before Timeless starts, and the last 14 minutes of the finale is therefor missing. Thankfully, Timeless series finale airs tonight at 10pm on Global.

Like CTV, Global has not yet formally announced its summer schedule.

    What we know so far:

    Sunday, May 27
    9:00pm Private Eyes (season 2B premiere) - 9 episodes

    Wednesday, May 30
    10:00pm Reverie (s-NBC)

    Sunday, June 17
    10:00pm Shades of Blue (season 3) (s-NBC)

Coming up this summer but yet to be scheduled:
    Big Brother (CBS) (season 20)
    Salvation (CBS) (season 2)

    Continuing their runs:
Elementary (s-CBS) - Monday 10:00pm (through late summer)
Instinct (s-CBS) - Sunday 8:00pm (through late June / early July)
Ransom (s-CBS) - Saturday 8:00pm (through late June / early July); Encores airing Monday 9:00pm

Clearly, Global still has a number of episodes to burn off for some of their sitcoms, including the cancelled Superior Donuts along with the recently renewed Superstore and AP Bio. With Kevin Can Wait having been cancelled, CBS will stop airing reruns at some point and Global will probably use the 8:00pm timeslot to burn off episodes. Other opportunities include Sunday June 10 when CBS has the Tony Awards.

As it stands for now, they are opting to run movies on Thursday nights. Global will continue to air an hour of sitcom reruns in simulcast with CBS Monday 8:00pm, and stick with their all-CBS lineup on Tuesdays.

Meanwhile, they will be running a season 2 encore of Mary Kills People with back-to-back episodes on Wednesday, May 30 at 8:00pm leading into the series premiere of Reverie.

The rest of their lineup is peppered with various CanCon reruns and encores from their specialty channels:
First Dates (Slice reality series) - Friday 10:00pm
Houdini & Doyle (cancelled FOX / Global series) - Saturday 10:00pm
Home to Win (HGTV original series) - Encores Saturday 9:00pm
Border Security - Saturday and Sunday 7:00pm and 7:30pm

Finally, Global will begin airing season 2 of the cancelled NBC series Taken starting Saturday, June 2 at 1:00pm. Essentially, they are giving it the same treatment like they did with Emerald City last summer. Until now, Global has only made the series available for streaming on their website.

NBC released a synopsis for Reverie's wed June 13 (episode 3), and at the same time, an "if necessary" Game 7 of NHL Playoffs is reserved for the night. Game 6 is scheduled sunday June 10, so we'll know by then whatever happens.

In case anyone is keeping score, Global is burning off Superstore mondays 8pm and thursdays 9pm : EP9 mon June 4, EP10 thu June 7, EP16 mon June 11 and EP13 for thu June 14... out of order ! Good thing I PVR'ed the show on NBC last winter.

June 8 update : Washington won the Stanley cup last night, problem solved for Rêverie !
