    For Immediate Release

TORONTO, June 4, 2018 – Today Global unveiled its 2018-2019 rock-solid primetime lineup featuring two highly sought-after new dramas, four fresh comedies, and one new family-friendly reality show. Combining strong, character-driven dramas with compelling storytelling and light-hearted and relatable comedies, the new series join the network’s 20 returning fall hits to round out its robust fall schedule with 17 hours of simulcast – the highest number of simulcast hours Global has ever achieved on record.

The seven new series joining Global’s 2018-2019 programming schedule include:

    • FBI – From the incomparable Emmy® Award-winning producer Dick Wolf, this fast-paced drama centres on the inner workings of the New York office of the Federal Bureau of Investigation and stars Canadian Missy Peregrym (Rookie Blue), Zeeko Zaki (Valor), Jeremy Sisto (Suburgatory) and Ebonée Noel (Wrecked).
    • New Amsterdam – Touted as one of the most anticipated new fall series, comes a heartfelt, character-driven medical drama starring The Blacklist’s Ryan Eggold and based on New York City’s historic Bellevue Hospital, the oldest public hospital in America.
    • The Neighborhood – A hilarious new comedy starring the charismatic actor and comedian Cedric the Entertainer (Barber Shop) as an opinionated neighbour who is wary of his new neighbours (Max Greenfield, New Girl).
    • Happy Together – Starring one of the most in-demand actors from pilot season, Damon Wayans Jr. (New Girl), and Amber Stevens West (Ghosted), this new comedy follows a 30-something happily married couple who begin to reconnect with their younger, cooler selves when an exuberant young pop star unexpectedly moves in with them.
    • I Feel BadExecutive produced by the multi-talented actress, comedian, director, and writer Amy Poehler (Parks and Recreation), this new family comedy stars Sarayu Blue (No Tomorrow) as a mom, boss, friend, wife and daughter who is perfectly okay with being imperfect.
    • Dancing with the Stars: Juniors – A new take on an established favourite, the reality series pairs celebrity kids with professional junior ballroom dancers to perform choreographed routines, which will be judged by a panel of renowned ballroom experts.
    • Abby’s (midseason) From the producers of The Good Place comes a hilariously aspirational new comedy about the best bar in San Diego – home to good prices, great company and of course, Abby! Filmed outdoors in front of a live studio audience, this ensemble comedy features Natalie Morales (Parks and Recreation) and Neil Flynn (The Middle).

“This year we secured the most coveted new drama New Amsterdam, and focussed on selecting new programming that complements our strong roster of established hits,” said Maria Hale, Senior Vice President, Global Entertainment & Content Acquisition, Corus Entertainment. “Creating a well-balanced schedule with compelling dramas, new comedy lineups, and some of the best reality series, Global is positioned for a successful fall season.”

    GLOBAL’S FALL 2018-2019 SCHEDULE

Mondays – Global kicks off the week with an all-new Monday night lineup, including a new comedy block with The Neighborhood and Happy Together, followed by last winter’s break-out hit 9-1-1, and Top 10 series Bull, which garnered an average of nearly two million viewers (2+) each week* in its sophomore run.

    Tuesdays
    – High-octane drama takes over Tuesday nights with franchise heavyweights NCIS: New Orleans and NCIS, paired with Global’s new dramas, the Dick Wolf executive produced FBI and character-driven medical drama New Amsterdam.

    Wednesdays
    – Last fall’s established Wednesday night lineup remains strong and intact with the #1 reality series Survivor* returning for a 37th season called Survivor David vs. Goliath, emotionally gripping Top 20 series SEAL Team*, and fan favourite Chicago P.D.

    Thursdays
    – Global’s two-hour comedy block kicks off with a laugh as the loveable workplace comedy Superstore returns, followed by the delightfully clever The Good Place, Top 10 hit revival Will & Grace*, and newcomer I Feel Bad, all leading into the action-packed series S.W.A.T.

    Fridays
    – Starring Canadian François Arnaud, last summer’s new supernatural thriller Midnight, Texas joins Global’s Friday night powerhouse series MacGyver and Hawaii Five-0.

    Saturdays
    – Emmy® Award-winning and Canada’s #1 late-night show*, Saturday Night Live returns for a ground-breaking 44th season.

    Sundays
    – Global ends the week with a show stopper as Dancing with the Stars: Juniors joins Sunday night standouts NCIS: Los Angeles and political drama Madam Secretary.

    MIDSEASON

The momentum continues into Global’s midseason lineup as last winter’s big juggernaut reality series Big Brother: Celebrity Edition and fan-favourite Big Brother Canada return for more must-see moments and outrageous houseguest antics. Both series were ratings champions for the network with Big Brother: Celebrity Edition becoming the most-watched entertainment series during the Olympics***, leading into Big Brother Canada, which grew audiences from its previous season, most notably with a 21% increase in the coveted A18-34 demo**.
The new year also welcomes a variety of compelling and thought-provoking dramas including the third and final chapter of the Canadian Screen Award-winning series Mary Kills People. Additional returning dramas include a new season of international hit Private Eyes, which is currently sold in 110 territories worldwide, the second season of critically acclaimed Instinct, starring Alan Cumming and Bojana Novakovic, and Season 7 of modern Sherlock Holmes series Elementary.

Rounding out the midseason lineup is new comedy Abby’s starring Natalie Morales (Parks and Recreation) joining Global’s hit comedies including the sophomore season of A.P. Bio, produced by Seth Meyers, and Season 3 of family comedy Man With a Plan.

Like I had mention as a possibility, Chicago Med is gone, but more surprising is Chicago Fire as well. I would have tought it would have taken the schedule instead of Seam Team, but I was wrong there. I presume City has picked them up, which means Modern Family will be on the move for them?

Back to Global, it looks like The Simpson is also gone (to City I presume also). Dancing with the Stars Junior on Global is a bit surpising as well. But I guess it fit with simulcasting priority.

The rest was pretty easy to guess.

Global figured this time around that less is more, judging from the few acquisitions they made. Once NBC decided to put all their Chicago shows on the same night, Global would have to give up at least one of them. It's like what happened last season with The Blacklist when NBC opted to put it on Wednesdays against Survivor, a show that remains a valuable commodity for them after all these years.

It was only a matter of time before The Simpsons would be off Global's schedule, considering how it has been that last piece of the puzzle for City's Sunday lineup which already simulcasts all of the FOX shows. Didn't think they would trade it off for Dancing with the Stars: Juniors but in terms of simsubs, it's a win-win for everyone.

In recent years, City's lineup has become more heavy with FOX shows - although they lost The Resident to CTV, it's possible that they might have gained The Gifted in return, leaving The Voice and The Flash to be programmed on the two CTV channels.

+1. City picked up The Gifted, but they didn't pick the other two Chicago shows. This leaves... CTV Two?

I see space on CTV for the 2 Chicagos, they don't have anything at 9pm to simsub and at 8pm on comedies and those are usually on CTV two. The networks really went outside their output deal this year.
Also like I mentioned in the City posting, The Blacklist is gone, maybe CTV will simsub Friday at 9pm, their other hole?

Looks like they didn't dump Chicago Med after all but the time slot (Saturdays @ 8pm) is not the greatest- isn't Saturday the least watched night of the week?! They should have stuck it Wednesdays @ 7pm in pre-release but I guess they don't want to bump ET Canada a second time since its already being bumped on Tuesdays for NCIS: New Orleans.

They are showing the Chicago's in reverse order than NBC who has Med-Fire-PD in that order on Wednesday. Global will have PD-Fire-Med. They do quite a few crossover, sometimes just a sche or two, but the story won't be in order unless they switch them around all the time, which is always possible with Global.

Then when Midnight,Texas comes back maybe they will move Fire to Saturday too?

It is possible Global will redirect Chicago franchise viewers to their Global Go platform... that is, if they're allowed to publish all 3 new Chicago episodes on thursday morning, instead of waiting for the episode to air on TV.
Big crossovers events will depend on if other networks have scheduled new episodes of their own shows, but so far, neither CTV or Global/Showcase has offered fan-service. Example, the last Supergirl-Flash-Arrow-Legends crossover, Global had a free spot but left the Supergirl episode on Showcase, while CTV Two had to push Arrow at 10pm, while Legends aired at the same time on Space... something like that. And the last Chicago+SVU crossover, CTV couldn't air SVU in simulcast if I remember, scrapping the flow.

Guess this will depend on advertisers money, football and cancelled shows and available slots at the time. Saturdays are used as temporary leftovers, but priority is given to balance the cancon quota. Global was lucky last winter with CBS scheduling Ransom, but dumping NBC's Taken (co-production with cancon interests) online and burning it saturday afternoons late spring - summer... I just ignored the show's 2nd season altogether.

My understanding is there is one crossover event planned for the second week of the season.
    https://www.tvguide.com/news/chicago...-october-2018/
Even NBC is changing up the order of the Chicago's that evening. So either watch/record NBC or record on Global and wait til the weekend to watch them all.
