Other priorities have come up during the last few months to the point that I no longer have the time to post these updates on a routine basis.
I started doing this nearly six years ago out of interest. Lately, that same level of interest is no longer there nor is it the same as before.
I continue to remain a regular follower of these forums, checking them daily for any new posts that might come up. That being said, I will be posting replies and creating new threads from time to time. In the meantime, there are several other ways to follow the schedule, from the CTV.ca website to the various TV listings posted online. I also leave it open for anyone on this forum if they wish to continue posting these schedule updates - you are more than welcome to do so.
Part of my reasoning is that I am not the only one who is feeling very unimpressed with the way CTV has been programming their schedule lately. Now I know this is nothing already new, but it seems rather tedious when posting these schedules from week to week, how CTV will always find a way to keep throwing in reruns of Big Bang Theory every chance they get, whether they are simulcast or not. The same thing goes for Criminal Minds, which acts as filler for one hour slots. Frankly, it seems to have gotten worse this season.
Consider the scheduling from the past few weeks alone:
Wednesday November 14
With the CMA Awards (s-ABC) airing on CTV Two, The Goldbergs and American Housewife were pre-empted for the evening. CTV fills those slots with Big Bang reruns.
Wednesday November 21
Grey’s Anatomy wrapped up its run for the fall, so CTV simply replaced it with a Criminal Minds rerun followed by a new episode as scheduled in its regular timeslot. And this looks to be the trend barring any holiday specials that they could air in simulcast.
Thursday November 22
With Station 19 officially on hiatus for the holidays, CTV opted to fill the timeslot with yet more back-to-back Big Bang reruns, including one in simulcast with CBS. And it looks to stay that way pretty much through the holiday season, as this happened again last week, and for the next two weeks (December 6 and 13)
Friday November 23
With regular programming pre-empted for the American Thanksgiving holiday, CTV opted to run a movie for two and a half hours, leaving a half-hour for filler leading into the national news. That filler went to yet another Big Bang rerun. Yet another missed opportunity to air some original programming on the evening, such as the MasterChef Junior Celebrity Showdown that aired on FOX the night before...
It gets even more interesting this week...
Sunday December 2
With God Friended Me already scheduled for pre-emption by CBS, CTV had plans to air the Thank You Canada special (which would have run for two hours). Late last week, post-production issues forced the special to be postponed until a later date. Not surprisingly, CTV replaced the two hour slot with two episodes of Big Bang Theory followed by a Law & Order: SVU rerun. There was a new episode of Shark Tank on ABC but CTV apparently ran it on Friday, two nights in pre-release.
Monday December 3
Now that The Resident is off for the holidays, CTV is filling it with even more Big Bang reruns for two weeks. And on this night, CBS is pre-empting Magnum P.I. in favour of more Big Bang reruns, so of course, CTV cannot pass off the chance at airing those in simulcast, culminating in a whopping two and a half hour marathon (including the nightly airing at 7:30pm)
Monday December 10
Magnum P.I. returns - that is the only original show for the evening, sandwiched between back-to-back episodes of Big Bang Theory and a rerun of Criminal Minds.
And this is all in addition to the regularly scheduled reruns already airing on Saturdays 10:00pm and weeknights 7:30pm. CTV2 also has reruns weeknights 7:00pm and bonus episodes Tuesdays at 9:00pm...
Well, this was quite the lengthy post. Like I said above, I will continue to post and reply on these forums on an occasional basis. But for now, this will be my last one for a while. It is simply a personal decision and I hope this is well understood. Thanks for taking the time to read my weekly posts over the past six years - much appreciated.
