TORONTO (December 20, 2018) – CTV announced today the network’s midseason schedule, headlined by winter premieres of worldwide success story and homegrown hit CARDINAL, which returns for its third season (Jan. 24), and hit original series THE LAUNCH returns for Season 2 (Jan. 30). The network also confirmed that new action-dramedy WHISKEY CAVALIER (Feb. 27) is set to premiere this winter. Kicking off midseason is the much buzzed-about international brand extension AMERICA’S GOT TALENT: THE CHAMPIONS (Jan. 7), featuring the very best “Got Talent” contenders from around the world.
In addition to fresh titles, Canada’s Top 3 programs return in January with new episodes of THE BIG BANG THEORY and YOUNG SHELDON (Jan. 3), as well as THE GOOD DOCTOR (Jan. 14). The fall season’s #1 new series* THE CONNERS also resumes with new episodes, beginning Jan. 8 on CTV.
CTV’s W5 – Canada’s most-watched documentary series, continues its unprecedented 53^rd season of groundbreaking investigations, unveiling all-new episodes beginning Saturday, Jan. 26 at 7 p.m. ET on CTV.

AMERICA’S GOT TALENT: THE CHAMPIONS

• The new series brings together 50 of the world’s most talented, memorable, and all-around fan-favourite acts from past seasons of “AGT”, as well as the other “Got Talent” franchises spanning 194 countries.

WHISKEY CAVALIER

CARDINAL

• Season 3 picks up immediately following the Season 2 cliffhanger finale surrounding the death of Detective John Cardinal’s (Billy Campbell) wife and follows the town’s latest gruesome double murder. Cardinal and Lise Delorme’s (Karine Vanasse) investigation brings them precariously close to a doomsday cult with nothing to lose, with Cardinal launching his own investigation into a case far more personal and dangerous. • As previously announced, CARDINAL has been renewed for a fourth season with production set to begin on six, all-new episodes on Jan. 30 in North Bay, Ont. and Toronto.

Since ABC decided to move A Million Little Things from current wed 10pm to thu 9pm (Citytv's conflict problem!), while Station 19 is on hiatus, and CTV keeps Grey's in pre-release wednesdays, guess they'll put HTGAWM in pre-release at 9pm instead of post fridays.

CTV will likely use this slot as filler for the first few weeks of the month until Cardinal makes its season debut on the 24th. So that means, well, what else...more Big Bang reruns on the 3rd and again on the 10th. How to Get Away with Murder will probably have a one-time Thursday airing on the 17th before moving back to its regular slot on Friday nights the following week.

To sum up what the midseason lineups are going to look like for CTV and CTV2:

Monday: CTV is sticking with The Resident, Magnum, P,I, and The Good Doctor, all of which return on January 14. CTV2 will be airing America's Got Talent: The Champions which premieres on January 7. Presumably, they will also be sticking with the next cycle of The Voice come February 25.

They also previously picked up a couple of midseason replacements: NBC's The Enemy Within (February 25) and ABC's The Fix (March 18), the latter of which will take over for The Good Doctor. My guess is The Enemy Within will either move to CTV2 or perhaps even Bravo.

Tuesday: CTV's lineup appears to be unchanged with The Conners, The Kids Are Alright, This Is Us and The Rookie, all resuming January 8. Ellen's Game of Games (not mentioned in the press release) will probably move over to CTV2 leading into more Big Bang filler and Splitting Up Together.. Once The Voice returns on February 26, it could go either way with the show either remaining on CTV2 or switching over to CTV, which will have American Housewife (replacing The Conners in Febuary) and The Kids Are Alright. As already mentioned in the press release, they have The Village, which debuts on March 12 at 7:00pm in pre-release for three weeks before moving to 9:00pm in April once This Is Us has finished for the season.

Wednesday: It looks as though The Goldbergs could be on the move again back to CTV Two come January 30, with CTV planning to air season 2 of its reality competition series in the 8:00pm timeslot. Until then, any guesses as to what they will air at 8:30pm (since they did not pick up Schooled, which ended up going over to Global instead)? They will probably continue airing Grey's Anatomy in pre-release at 9:00pm (starting January 16) with the last episodes of Criminal Minds at 10:00pm through late February until Whiskey Cavalier premieres on the 27th. Match Game (also left out in the press release) will be airing new episodes starting January 9 at 10:00pm - they will probably air on CTV2. As of right now, it will probably be a block of CanCon movies to fill the night on CTV2.

Thursday: No-brainer scheduling here. CTV continues to be pushing promos for Big Bang's final season so it remains untouched at 8 along with Young Sheldon at 8:30. That blocks Gotham, which also airs its final season over on CTV2. CTV original drama series Cardinal takes over at 9:00pm starting on January 24, followed by Law & Order: SVU. Barring any other network pickups, looks like a filler slot for 9:00pm on CTV2 with Criminal Minds reruns. Station 19 returns on March 7.

Friday: CTV's lineup remains stable with Blindspot, How to Get Away with Murder and Blue Bloods. Once Murder finishes its run for the season in early March, it will be replaced with For the People. Nothing picked up for CTV2, so they will probably stick with more CanCon movies as they did in the fall.

Sunday: Right through the Super Bowl, CTV's schedule is going to change each week for Sunday nights. They have the Golden Globes on January 6, so that will likely bump the winter returns of God Friended Me and Shark Tank over to CTV2. God Friended Me airs another original episode on the 13th before taking nearly a month off (with the return of Big Brother: Celebrity Edition on CBS in late January / early February). On January 20, they will have a championship game followed by a special episode of Magnum, P.I.

Fast forward to early March, after the Oscars, CTV plans on airing the third season of World of Dance, which runs for two hours, in simulcast with NBC. Assuming that God Friended Me remains on Sundays, it will probably move to 7:00pm in pre-release to finish out its run for the season. Also by that time, American Idol will make its return to ABC and presumably simulcast on CTV2. Shark Tank stays on the schedule with new episodes airing at 10:00pm.

Once spring arrives, CTV usually begins airing a new season of MasterChef Canada. Last season, it aired Tuesdays at 9:00pm after This Is Us finished. My guess is that it probably takes over the Wednesday 8:00pm slot after The Launch finishes its run.

Some noteworthy scheduling changes since the aforementioned press release and my last post on this thread:

Ellen’s Game of Games - New episodes airing on CTV Tuesdays at 7:00pm (pre-NBC) beginning January 8. Bonus episode airs at 9:00pm for that night only.

Match Game - Season 4 premiere on CTV Wednesday, January 9 at 9:00pm (pre-ABC). Moves to CTV2 as of January 16 at 10:00pm (s-ABC).

How to Get Away with Murder - Winter premiere on CTV2 Thursday, January 17 at 10:00pm (s-ABC). Show is moving over from CTV as part of the annual midseason programming shuffle between the two channels. Not surprising, given that CTV opted to air the show out of simulcast back in the fall and it is no longer among ttheir top-rated shows.

The Beaverton - Season 3 premiere on CTV Friday, January 18 at 9:00pm (according to advanced listings).

Shark Tank - Reruns (Season 10) airing on CTV2 Tuesdays at 8:00pm beginning January 8. These are mostly encore episodes that started airing Sundays at 10:00pm on ABC during the fall when The Alec Baldwin Show was benched.
CTV2 will continue showing the encore episodes at the same time as ABC in simulcast on Sunday nights.

New year, same old Big Bang fillers...especially until midseason replacements Cardinal and The Launch return near the end of January. Yikes!
Big Bang fillers on Monday 9:00pm and 9:30pm (January 7 only), Wednesday at 8:30pm (January 9 and 16), Thursday at 9:00pm and 9:30pm (January 10 and 17) and Friday at 9:30pm (January 18). This in addition to Tuesday 9:00pm (CTV2).

Noticeably, CTV is using filler slots on Friday to kick off the new year for regular airings of W5 to compensate for its pre-emption on Saturdays due to the NFL playoffs - 8:00pm on January 4 and 9:00pm on January 11. Regular Saturday airings resume on January 19 at 7:00pm. More than anything, a measure to preserve their weekly CanCon commitments.

Sunday January 6 - CTV has opted to air the late afternoon NFL Wild Card game leading into live coverage of the Golden Globe Awards. This is a rare and interesting move - my guess is the scheduled matchup is expected to draw huge viewing numbers. But just in case the game runs longer than expected, at the risk of going past 8:00pm, they have the TSN feeds. Of course for that night only, CTV’s regular Sunday lineup of God Friended Me and Shark Tank gets bumped over to CTV2.

UPDATE (January 12): The Beaverton's season 3 premiere has been delayed although Bell Media's advertising sales section does have it airing Fridays at 9:00pm paired with well, what else, Big Bang reruns. They have another episode of W5 on January 18 then a two-hour movie on January 25. So that will push its season premiere to sometime in February. Why not pair it instead with one of their new CanCon original series they have commissioned for this season (new sitcom with Jann Arden perhaps)? Which leads to another question. What will CTV air after the Super Bowl this year? This year's post-Super Bowl show in the U.S. is the series premiere of The World's Best, another reality competition show but whose rights in Canada belong to Citytv. So perhaps CTV might use the slot to provide a sneak peek of something or another...

Thanks for the heads up but, damnit, there's no Montreal CTV2 affiliate here, so I'll have to PVR "Friended" from WCAX (CBS) tonight... and when it gets cold (minus 11 Celcius by 8pm), my antenna reception doesn't perform best, so I guess I'll have to watch it online within the next 7 days before it gets locked.

Tonight at 9pm ET (Tue Jan 8), Trump wants to address to the nation about taking federal jobs hostage over his friggin' wall. As of writing this, CBS, NBC and Fox confirmed they'll interupt primetime programming for 8 to 20 minutes. This will affect tonight's CTV, Global and Citytv's programming as well. Expect your TV service provider to fail simsubs.

CTV and Global may air the shows out of simulcast so they can start the 11pm news at 11.

1pm ET update : ABC jumped in. CBS will bump new episodes of FBI & NCIS:NO to next week (a Neighbourhood rerun at 9:30pm, NCIS:NO rerun at 10pm), meaning Canada got to see the NCIS:NO episode one full week before the US !

Over NBC, they initially had 2x Ellen Games at 8pm and 9pm, CTV cannot simsub the 8pm show due to ABC's Conners and Kids Alright so it airs in pre-release at 7pm. NBC replaced the 9pm edition with a rerun they'll join in-progress once Trump coverage is done, but CTV opted for... **drum roll** yeah, not a big suspense : 2x TBBT reruns, what else were you expecting from Bell Media...

Odd move, but... ABC opted to schedule the series premiere of mid-season series "Whiskey Cavalier" AFTER the Oscars.

A special showing of the spy series will air following the awards telecast on Sunday, Feb. 24 from 11:35 pm to 12:39 am ET (and 10 to 11:04 pm PT).

The Oscars usually go overtime, last year until 11;54pm ET, and the Alec Baldwin show was initially supposed to premiere at 11:35pm that night, after the 11pm local news. Dunno how it works...

My guess at this point is that CTV will probably make the series premiere of Whiskey Cavalier available for streaming on CTV.ca come Oscars night, then just have its televised premiere three nights later as scheduled on Wednesday in simulcast with ABC.

Any excuse just to flood their programming schedule with more reruns of Big Bang Theory and Criminal Minds. Speaking of the latter, it has now been confirmed that the show will be ending after next season. And like it or not, it's a whole lot easier for them to find a way to spin the ratings numbers with Big Bang reruns than episodes of original programs that fall far short of the former.

As for ABC's How to Get Away with Murder, it is getting exactly the same treatment as Gotham did last season.

When FOX moved Gotham to Thursdays 8:00pm in fall 2017, it was instantly blocked from simulcast thanks to the pairing of Big Bang Theory and Young Sheldon. Pre-release airing at 7:00pm? Nope. Grey's Anatomy gets the slot. CTV Two had Thursday Night Football, which was at the time split between CBS and NBC. So CTV had room at 9:00pm to air the show in post-release. As soon as January rolled around, CTV Two had room to program on the night so Gotham moved there to air in simulcast. CTV did not have anything else to simulcast Thursday at 10:00pm so How to Get Away with Murder remained there.

For fall 2018, NBC opted to move Law & Order: SVU into the Thursday slot shared with Murder. With Murder's ratings on the decline and presumably no longer in the Top 30 as earlier seasons, CTV likely preferred SVU in simulcast and moved Murder over to Fridays in post-release. Now that football is no longer on Thursday night, it's moved back only this time over on CTV2 where it can air in simulcast.

Cardinal's season premiere on January 24 makes sense from a logistical standpoint. It's scheduled to run for six weeks (through February 28). On March 7, Station 19 returns from hiatus, along with the season 2 premiere of For the People (both Shondaland shows). The latter will probably move over to CTV2 at this point, blocked by SVU on the main network.

Other notes:
FOX just announced on Friday that season 7 of MasterChef Junior will premiere on Tuesday February 26 at 8:00pm. On the same evening, new episodes of The Voice return along with a special two-hour season premiere of World of Dance. Based on the above press release, CTV plans to air World of Dance. That will probably bump The Rookie (if it's new that evening) to a special pre-release airing at 7:00pm followed by the regularly scheduled ABC sitcoms (American Housewife and The Kids Are Alright) for the 8:00pm hour. The Voice will likely stick on CTV2 and then be followed by MasterChef Junior in post-release at 9:00pm.

What will CTV air after the Super Bowl this year?

To those not consulting their TV Listings, looks like CTV decided on.... nothing! They just threw a "SC with Jay and Dan", which I assume are TSN hosts who will just fill-in the few minutes left between the post-game and the 11pm news.

As for the west coast... take a wild guess what 8pm to 11pm slots will be used for? I know what you were thinking, but 3 hours of TBBT might be excessive, so Bell settled for 2 hours of TBBT + a Criminal Minds filler. Alberta gets 1 hour of TBBT + CM, while Winnipeg just get the CM filler.

Also noteworthy, Global hasn't decided to burnoff some shelved episodes during the game ("I Feel Bad" comes to mind).

For the month of February:

With Magnum P.I. pre-empted for two weeks, CTV is filling its timeslot with reruns of Law & Order: SVU. New episodes return on February 18. It was one of four shows that just got renewed for a second season by CBS.

Now that The Conners' run is done for this season, CTV has moved Ellen's Game of Games to run in simulcast with NBC Tuesday at 8:00pm for the next few weeks until The Voice returns, leading into This Is Us and The Rookie. This will bump the sitcoms American Housewife (moving over from Wednesdays) and The Kids Are Alright to Friday at 9:00pm and 9:30pm respectively, both airing in post-release three nights after their original broadcasts on ABC. Barring any changes, it was already announced that CTV will run the two-hour season 3 premiere of World of Dance on Tuesday, February 26 at 9:00pm, which means The Rookie will probably get a one-time airing in pre-release and Tuesday episodes of The Voice will remain on CTV2 in simulcast with NBC.

Following all the mess stateside that postponed the State of the Union until this week, all regular Tuesday night programming resumes on February 12. That also has a ripple effect on This Is Us, whose season finale was supposed to at the end of March, but now has been pushed back to April 2.
The new season of MasterChef Junior, originally scheduled for February 26, has been pushed back to March 5, and will presumably air on CTV2.

Not surprisingly, CTV has played musical chairs with The Goldbergs once again, bumping it over to CTV Two in order to make room for its original music reality competition series The Launch, airing Wednesdays at 8:00 through early March. And with Criminal Minds wrapping up its season this week, new episodes of Match Game move back to CTV in the Wednesday 10:00pm timeslot for February 13 and 20. They will also be airing the new series Whiskey Cavalier, which premieres on February 27, as previously announced.

CTV is going full CanCon on Saturday with original airings of W5 followed by encore episodes of The Launch (from Wednesday), season 1 of recently renewed series Carter and Cardinal (from Thursday), with Big Bang fillers out of the way.

With the NFL done for another season, CTV has specials planned for Sunday evenings. The Thank You Canada Tour two-hour special that was originally scheduled in December will finally be airing next Sunday (February 10) at 7:00pm, leading into a new episode of Shark Tank and a Criminal Minds rerun. They already have the Oscars on the 24th. As for what will be on the 17th, there's a new episode of God Friended Me, returning from an unusual month-long hiatus (only to be pre-empted one more time against the Oscars). It also just earned a renewal from CBS this past week. My guess is that Big Bang fillers air in the 7:00pm hour for that evening only.

As already mentioned, NBC has set the premiere of midseason drama The Enemy Within for Monday February 25 at 10:00pm. With The Good Doctor currently airing there, it would almost be a given that the show moves over to CTV2. Currently, that timeslot is home to second window runs of the reality series Temptation Island (which airs on E! in Canada). Nothing has been confirmed as of yet.

Looking ahead to March:

Once the Oscars are out of the way, it would appear that CTV God Friended Me gets bumped up to Sunday at 7:00pm in pre-release, where it will run through mid-April to wrap up its first season, followed by two hour episodes of World of Dance (s-NBC) at 8:00pm and Shark Tank (s-ABC) at 10:00pm. This would clear the way for American Idol to air over on CTV2 in simulcast with ABC, though this has yet to be confirmed, and there's no mention of it at all on CTV's website. On Bell Media's Advertising Sales site, it is included among the list of shows on the CTV2 page, but just saying that it is returning midseason. The page seems to be outdated as it is still showing the schedule from fall 2018. Monday episodes of The Voice will likely remain on CTV2 (since The Resident and Magnum P.I. are already on CTV, and there's really no other place to reschedule) so it will be a dilemma come mid-March. They can easily dump it over to one of their specialty channels like Much or E! assuming that Bell Media still retains the Canadian rights. For the record, yesTV previously aired the last seasons in simulcast with FOX.

TORONTO (February 4, 2019) – CTV announced today a second wave of winter premieres, bolstering the network’s midseason lineup of heavy-hitting debuts, returning favourites, and big-ticket special events. Joining the winter schedule is the new, fast-paced spy-hunting thriller THE ENEMY WITHIN (March 3); the much-anticipated 10-episode television event from executive producer Marcia Clark, THE FIX (March 18), two-hour special THANK YOU CANADA (Feb. 10), and the new six-episode eponymous comedy JANN (March 20).
Along with new seasons of returning favourites THE VOICE (Feb. 25), WORLD OF DANCE (March 3), AMERICAN IDOL (March 3), STATION 19 (March 7), and FOR THE PEOPLE (March 7), these hot new winter programs join previously announced new series WHISKEY CAVALIER and THE VILLAGE, along with CTV Originals THE LAUNCH and CARDINAL.
CTV also announced today the expansion of its original international format series THE LAUNCH, adding a bonus seventh episode to round out the series’ sophomore season. From Bell Media Studios, the final episode of Season 2 unites all six launched artists and joins them as their lives completely change after they are chosen to record and release a new, original song. Episode 7 of THE LAUNCH airs Wednesday, March 13 at 8 p.m. ET/PT on CTV.

I noticed that CTV has been promoting one of its new midseason shows THE ENEMY WITHIN to premiere on Sunday, March 3 at 10:00pm. That's nearly a week, make that six nights (in post-release) after the original series premiere airs Monday, February 25 on NBC. If not only for the Oscars, CTV could have easily set the premiere perhaps the night before on the 24th.

Now based on the advanced listings for Monday, February 25, FOX has pre-empted The Resident, so that should leave room for CTV to air the series premiere on that evening, alongside new episodes of Magnum P.I. and The Good Doctor. Perhaps someone at Bell Media / CTV headquarters is not yet aware of this, because they currently have well, what else, back-to-back reruns of Big Bang Theory scheduled to air at 8:00pm. I figure this may or may not trigger a last-minute reaction as we get closer to that evening, but here's hoping they don't squander that opportunity even if it means having to change the premiere date for the show's promo. In the end, it makes things a whole lot simpler.

The problem with waiting until Sunday, March 3 for the premiere, is that the second episode is scheduled to air the following evening on Monday, March 4, when CTV's current regular lineup of The Resident, Magnum P.I. and The Good Doctor are all back with new episodes.

So that would mean the next new episode would not air until Sunday, March 10. Now if CTV really wants to stick with their current plan based on the promos they have already been running, then there's another opportunity to play catch-up, since The Resident will be pre-empted again on March 11, and presumably in this case, CTV could use this as an opportunity to air the second and third episode on back-to-back nights then resume its regular run on Sunday nights at 10:00pm starting March 17 in pre-release. As a quick reminder, another new midseason series, The Fix, premieres on Monday, March 18 replacing The Good Doctor, which will have concluded its run for the season.

With a new season of the NBC reality competition series World of Dance on the way, CTV's Sunday night lineup as of March will have God Friended Me moving to 7:00pm (pre-CBS). Meanwhile, CTV2 will be simulcasting ABC's lineup with American Idol and Shark Tank.

CTV2 will also need to find room for some of the Monday episodes of American Idol that will air for five weeks starting March 18. Seeing how ABC has a special Wednesday episode scheduled for its first week, CTV2 would likely follow and then logically, going forward, use Wednesday evenings to accommodate the Monday night episodes in post-release. By then, The Goldbergs would return to CTV following its short run on CTV2 since The Launch is currently filling its slot on the main network. Also, CTV would have The Goldbergs paired with original series Jann just in time for its series premiere on Wednesday, March 20 while CTV2 would be running the Monday episodes of American Idol.

Looking ahead to later in the spring, CTV also has the limited series The Red Line (CBS) scheduled to premiere with back-to-back episodes beginning Sunday, April 28 at 8:00pm. It is slated to run eight episodes within a period of four weeks. By that time, both God Friended Me and Magnum P.I. will have finished their runs for the season, so CTV will have to revisit their lineup then and juggle some shows around. Presumably, The Enemy Within moves to Monday nights, so CTV can make room for two episodes of The Red Line on Sundays.

Finally, the season premiere of MasterChef Junior has been pushed back by FOX once again to Tuesday, March 12, so that will be on CTV2, while new Tuesday episodes of The Voice already start airing on CTV from the week before. Another midseason drama, The Village, now begins its run on Tuesday, March 19, where it will air for its first three weeks at 7:00pm in pre-release, until This Is Us finishes out its run for the season and then moves into its timeslot starting April 9.

it was already announced that CTV will run the two-hour season 3 premiere of World of Dance on Tuesday, February 26 at 9:00pm, which means The Rookie will probably get a one-time airing in pre-release and Tuesday episodes of The Voice will remain on CTV2 in simulcast with NBC.

CTV opted to keep ABC's Rookie in simulcast, shifting the 2-hours World of Dance in pre-release at 8pm. Guess advertisers will pay more for a 1-hour Nat Fillion cop show than a returning 2-hours reality TV show in simulcast.

Edit : ABC scheduled the series premiere of Whiskey Cavalier at 11:35pm, meaning after the Oscars, after the 11pm local news ET. Even in a perfect world where the Oscars ends at 11pm, CTV has national news + local news, so they can't simsub the show, except maybe using CTV2. The interesting part, CTV just decided to ignore the series premiere and go along with their overnight reruns of South Park, Criminal Minds, JFL, Mike & Molly... and simsub the wednesday 10pm rerun instead.

Except on the West Coast. ABC has a 2-hours "On the Red Carpet after the Oscars" starting at 8pm PT, and Whiskey starts at 10pm PT, which CTV will simsub after a few Goldbergs and their beloved TBBT fillers. Yup, the Oscars will overrun, Goldbergs reruns are there in the schedule as a cushion, but you won't miss your TBBT fillers, you west-coasters !

Canada’s Favourite Culinary Competition MASTERCHEF CANADA Returns With a Special Two-Hour Premiere, April 8 on CTV

A 2019 Canadian Screen Award nominee, Season 6 of MASTERCHEF CANADA kicks off with a special two-hour premiere on Monday, April 8 beginning at 8 p.m. ET/PT on CTV before settling into its regular Mondays at 9 p.m. ET/PT timeslot.

Monday 9pm slot is currently used by Magnum PI, whose 20th episode is scheduled for April 1st. CBS has NCAA basketball the following monday, April 8, and mid-season series The Code takes over the slot April 15, after its series premiere on tuesday Apr 9. I guess no canadian broadcaster picked The Code, and CTV opted for the empty slot for their culinary show. What about Magnum's 2 remaining episodes? No idea. Magnum has been renewed for a 2nd season, maybe CBS will pull a "Lucifer" and bump those two episodes for season 2.
Edit : CBS announced April 1st as Magnum's season finale.

On mondays 8pm, CTV simsubs Fox's The Resident. 22 episodes total, its 18th episode is scheduled March 25, so it's safe to assume the last 4 episodes are scheduled for late april - may sweeps, meaning Apr 8 will most likely be a rerun.
