CTV Unveils 2019/20 Primetime Schedule

And the World Series will go to a Game 7, so The Masked Singer and Almost Family will be pre-empted for one more week.

Beyond Stumptown, not sure what CTV has planned for the rest of the evening. CTV2 usually carries The Goldbergs and a Big Bang rerun in the Wednesday 8:00pm slot.

CTV could have taken advantage of tonight to show a new episode of The Conners and air it in simulcast, although such a change would have been on such short notice and heading into this past weekend, it was not known whether the World Series would reach Game 6.

FOX recently announced their midseason plans and it looks they will have Almost Family finish out its run at 13 episodes through the end of January. It will then be replaced by new reality competition series Lego Masters on February 5.

According to The Futon Critic:
As it stands right now, episodes will resume airing in its Wednesday 9:00pm timeslot starting November 13 for three consecutive weeks with a bonus airing on Thursday for the week of the U.S. Thanksgiving holiday. It will be pre-empted for one week at the start of December, then return for one more episode on December 11 before the annual holiday hiatus. Starting from New Year's Day, it runs for five straight weeks culminating in the finale on January 29.

Of course, depending on how lower the ratings go, FOX can choose to abandon this plan, pull the show from its schedule and just have the remaining episodes exclusively online.

I'm not sure if Ambulance is still in the network's plans. CBS ordered it to series back in March 2017 but nothing has happened since then, and the show is no longer listed on the network's press website.

CBS has still not reached a decision on Celebrity Big Brother and have another reality series in development called Tough as Nails. Also, it's always possible that CBS might make changes to its Thursday night lineup, given the year-to-year ratings losses since the end of Big Bang Theory and with Thursday Night Football ending after the holidays.

If the final season of Criminal Minds gets held back until summer, that gives CBS at least two scripted series with Blood and Treasure returning for season 2.

No word on The Launch, although it's looking more like it might not be returning, otherwise an announcement would have been made already. Or they could be waiting until live events like the Grey Cup or American Music Awards to promote their midseason lineup.

Without looking too far ahead, the midseason plans of the broadcast networks will be released in the next few weeks with the holiday season approaching.

What we do know: Mondays will get crowded between 9-1-1: Lone Star and America's Got Talent: The Champions, the latter of which will air on CTV2. That means Bob Hearts Abishola and The Conners will get displaced, perhaps to 7:30pm in pre-release on Monday and Tuesday respectively. Or they can leave their Monday lineup as it is, and air one of their Monday dramas in pre-release on Sundays with Shark Tank moving over to CTV2.

For the month of January at least, with The Masked Singer taking a break until after the Super Bowl, they could probably air The Goldbergs in simulcast on CTV. They will also have space to fill on Friday 8:00pm once the first season of L.A.'s Finest has finished its run.

How to Get Away with Murder may move back to CTV2 for its final episodes. FOX also announced that midseason show Deputy will air Thursday 9:00pm in January. To my knowledge, that show has not been picked up by any Canadian network, and it replaces Filthy Rich, which was picked up by CTV and has been pushed back to debut sometime in the spring. The sitcom Outmatched, also picked up by CTV (more than likely to air on CTV2), will debut Thursday, January 23 at 8:30pm, possibly paired with Young Sheldon, whose numbers are obviously hurting now that it no longer has The Big Bang Theory as a lead-in.

CBS announced their midseason plans today.

First, the fifteenth and final season of Criminal Minds premieres on Wednesday, January 8 at 9:00pm with a two-hour episode, with the finale airing on February 19 (also two hours). So doing the math, that makes nine episodes...

Secondly, MacGyver returns back to its regular Friday night timeslot starting February 7 at 8;00pm, pushing Hawaii Five-O back an hour later to 9:00pm, and benching Magnum P.I., which will return later after MacGyver concludes its season.

What this means for CTV:
With four episodes remaining, Almost Family is almost certain to get bumped, either moving to CTV2 or airing in pre-release at 8:00pm (until The Masked Singer returns). And suddenly, they have holes to fill on Friday in January with something at 8:00pm (the final season of Blindspot has been pushed back to summer) and now at 9:00pm with Magnum, P.I. taking a hiatus in February.

... and I was right. I didn't meant CM was taking the wed 8pm slot, but it's being burn-off during the annual winter break of Survior.

Fridays. American Housewive simsub + TBBT filler at 8:30pm ? Or they could compete Citytv with a Hallmark-like movie. Unless they hate an original canadian production so much to burn it on fridays...

On Sun Nov 24 at 8pm, CTV will simsub ABC's American Music Awards, after some football game. "God Friended Me" has been rescheduled to tuesday 9pm, in This Is Us slot, which had its fall finale the previous week.

I noticed it yesterday. CTV2 has football in simsub, so that's not it. The episode remains shelved for now despite CTV's "Cardinal"' KV as a guest star.

Also NBC sends the Chicago trilogy on a december break after their respective Nov 20 episode. On Nov 27, NBC programmed Ellen's Game at 8pm, conflicting with Fox's Masked Singer. As of writing this, Zap2It scheduled a Schooled episode of CKVR (CTV2) while ABC has a Charlie Brown special, so I wouldn't trust that source, but on CFTO, Ellen is in simsub priority over Masked...

EDIT : God Friended Me S2E09 was rescheduled to the following sunday, Dec 1st. CBS has a "60 Minutes presents" special that day.

Here we are in december, some shows went on hiatus, some have a week or two in the month, other schedule slots are reruns, and CTV has a really creative idea this year to fill the empty slots. Kidding, expect TBBT reruns, as usual.

CTV has picked up the new FOX reality series Flirty Dancing, which premieres Sunday December 29. Caught a promo during tonight's episode of The Masked Singer.

Makes sense for them to pick it up as it will be bridging two cycles of The Masked Singer in the Wednesday 8:00pm timeslot for the month of January. The Masked Singer retuns in February with the season premiere following the Super Bowl before resuming in its Wednesday timeslot.

The midseason lineups for CTV and CTV2 should be released any point now.
