    Global announces Winter 2020 schedule

    December 11, 2019
GLOBAL ANNOUNCES DIVERSE LINEUP OF 2020 WINTER PREMIERES

New Acquisitions Include Dick Wolf Spinoff Series FBI: Most Wanted, Edie Falco-Led Political Drama Tommy, and Emmy® Award-winning Reality Series Undercover Boss
Returning Favourites Include Breakout Hit Prodigal Son, #1 Reality Show Survivor, and the Series Finale of Cult-Classic Comedy The Good Place
#ThankANurse Campaign Culminates January 6 on Global’s The Morning Show Ahead of the Nurses Premiere at 8 p.m. ET/PT
Stream Full Seasons Anytime, Anywhere with The Global TV App

Toronto, Canada – Home to three of the top five shows in Canada, Global released today a new wave of winter premieres adding more dynamic content to its stellar lineup of scripted and unscripted series for 2020. Headlined by new Global original drama Nurses, the network also welcomes three new acquisitions including: new Dick Wolf spinoff FBI: Most Wanted; Tommy, a new political drama helmed by Emmy winner Edie Falco; and Emmy Award-winning reality series Undercover Boss. Returning to the schedule are Canada’s #1 new series Prodigal Son (A25-54), Tuesday night’s #1 program New Amsterdam, and the #1 reality series Survivor (A25-54) for a milestone 40th season.

“Global is a powerhouse for premium scripted and unscripted content, owning three of the top five shows in Canada this fall,” said Daniel Eves, Senior Vice President of TV Networks, Corus Entertainment. “As we head in to a new TV season this winter, we’re adding more star power and multi-genre series to our schedule with a new original production, Hollywood dramas, and more episodes of your favourite hit shows.”

    NEW SHOWS

Global’s winter schedule kicks off January 6 with the world premiere of the all-Canadian medical drama, Nurses. As previously announced, Nurses follows five recent graduates beginning their careers in a high-stakes hospital in downtown Toronto. Prior to the official series premiere, Global celebrates the New Year with a special pre-release of the first episode available to all Canadians on January 1 at GlobalTV.com and on the Global TV app.

As a companion initiative to Nurses, Global recently launched #ThankANurse – a national recognition campaign to thank nurses across the country for their hard work and dedication. With the campaign underway, Canadians still have time to nominate a nurse by using the hashtag #thankanurse and tagging @globaltv. Head to GlobalTV.com to check out some of the nominations, and tune in to Global’s The Morning Show on January 6 as the Network celebrates these unsung heroes.

Following the premiere of Nurses, Global adds even more star power with Hollywood elite on and off camera. Debuting January 7, Dick Wolf delivers new spinoff series FBI: Most Wanted, an intense drama focusing on hunting and capturing the notorious criminals on the Bureau’s Most Wanted list with the help of the Fugitive Task Force. Then, on February 6, the no-nonsense political drama Tommy debuts with Edie Falco playing the first female chief of police for Los Angeles – one who brings unflinching honesty and hardball tactics to every aspect of her job.

“Landing the Emmy-winning former Nurse Jackie and The Sopranos star, one of the most decorated actresses working in TV today, is a major coup…” – Deadline
Rounding out Global’s new series this winter is Season 9 of Undercover Boss. Premiering January 8, the two-time Emmy Award-winning reality series follows high-level executives as they slip anonymously into the rank-and-file of their own organizations.

    RETURNING HITS

“There’s an art to portraying death on TV, and Tom Payne is shaping up to be a Picasso.” – Postmedia

Global is home to some of the most-watched shows on TV from gripping dramas to laugh-out-loud comedies and in-your-face reality. January welcomes new episodes of Top 10 series FBI and NCIS on January 7, Evil’s hair-raising return on January 9, Ryan Eggold and his ensemble cast return with more episodes of New Amsterdam on January 14, Michael Sheen and Tom Payne bring more thrilling theories to Prodigal Son on January 20, and action-packed MacGyver rejoins the schedule on February 7.

“In a way, the down-to-Earth, emotional-but-funny quality to The Unicorn is the anti-This Is Us. It has depth and wit and stands as a feel-good show about families and people who make missteps and have regrets.” – The Globe and Mail

If drama doesn’t soothe those January blues, Global’s stacked lineup of Thursday night comedies will. Beginning January 9 the critically-acclaimed comedy The Unicorn moves to a new timeslot, followed by new episodes of Will & Grace and the Patricia Heaton-starring Carol’s Second Act. Global also readies to bid a fond forking farewell to TV comedy darling The Good Place. Starring Kristen Bell and Ted Danson, the cult-classic series bows on January 30 followed by a post-show special featuring the entire cast. See addendum for specific broadcast details.

“The show changed television forever, introducing reality television to the masses. Its effects on popular culture continue: it even inspired writer Suzanne Collins to pen The Hunger Games.” – People

Lastly, Global delivers a hearty dose of reality TV with the return of the Tiffany Haddish-hosted reboot of Kids Say the Darndest Things on January 5, and the monumental 40th season of Survivor debuting with a two-hour special on February 12 with host Jeff Probst. Stay tuned for more exciting reality updates, including a premiere date for the electrifying eighth season of Big Brother Canada.

Once again, Superstore, just like Schooled, gets shelved as online-only series, while rival Citytv has nothing to offer but Mom reruns while waiting the return of B99 next month, Global, give Superstore to Citytv already !

With Modern Family ending early on April 8th, and Single Parents taking a break for a few weeks, that will give them some slots for comedies as it's American Housewife that will moved there. Unless they schedule Big Brother Canada at 9pm, which is very possible.

I scratched my head a few minutes until I found out ABC's press release about moving Housewife to wednesdays starting mid-march. After Criminal Minds short run on CBS, SEAL Team can come back in simsub, unless as you suggested, Global move that low-rated drama to friday night death slot to prioritize BBCan.

9pm edit : Just visually saw scenes from "Nurses" and thought for a minute I was watching CTV's Saving Hope, without the blue flare effect. It would make sense to re-use that same, closed hospital's sets in Toronto as filming locations.

On thursday Jan 23, CBS has only comedy reruns, so Global figured they have nothing to simsub at 8pm and scheduled a random "Carol's" rerun, and time-shifted the Unicorn rerun at 9:30pm... Hmmm, 'kay, NBC has a new Superstore episode that night, hello? And also, only the first 2 episodes of Schooled were burned, 10 are sitting on a shelf...

    Global revealed their schedules for Big Brother Canada : Wednesdays (7 p.m. ET/PT), Thursdays (8 p.m. ET/PT), and Sundays (8 p.m. ET/PT), starting March 4th, 2020.

ALL-NEW SUPERSIZED SEASON OF BIG BROTHER CANADA PREMIERES MARCH 4 ON GLOBAL
    https://www.corusent.com/news/all-ne...h-4-on-global/

By that time, NBC's thu lineup is Superstore, B-99, W&G and Indebted, while CBS has YS, Unicorn, Mom & Carol. Obviously, Global will put only new episodes of Unicorn in pre-release at 7:30pm...

With Single Parents off from March 4th to April 1st, they could put The Unicorn there, then move it to 9pm after Modern Family ends. Unless they decide to have Schooled there, but Schooled doesn't seem a priority. They might also move BBC to 9pm when MF ends.

During the Oscars on Sun Feb 9, Global is burning off 2 episodes of Schooled (eps 3 & 4) and 2 episodes of Superstore (eps 11 & 12). Also, Superstore ep 8 is previously burn thu Feb 6 at 8pm while NBC has a 1-hour premiere of B99 in simulcast with Citytv.

CBS announced the replacements for thursday sitcoms Unicorn and Carol's starting April 2nd with "Man with a Plan" at 8:30 and new sitcom "Broke" at 9:30. By then, Global will be already in the BBCAN pre-emption hell...

Wednesdays: ABC shelved Single Parents which returns Apr 15, the week after Modern Family's 1-hour series finale on Apr 8th. Until then, Global temporarily scheduled Schooled at 9:30pm in post-release as hole-filling half-hour, but they'll obviously simsub CBS's Seal Team from there and shelf Schooled again, and probably shelf Single Parents too (7pm is BBCAN time).

Thursdays: CBS's Unicorn & Carol's 2nd Act season finales are scheduled for Mar 12, then CBS has basketball for the next 2 weeks, therefor Global will simsub NBC's W&G, and scheduled Superstore in post-release at 9:30pm. Considering the above-mentionned CBS lineup starting Apr 2nd... Global has BBCAN at 8pm until may, W&G at 9pm, therefor, if they didn't pickup Broke, Plan is a good post-release candidate.

Global picked up Broke. It was announced as part of their 2019/2020 lineup during their upfronts last year.
    https://discuss.channelcanada.com/sh...-2019-Schedule

Looking ahead, with Hawaii Five-O wrapping up its run on April 3, The Blacklist easily takes over its Friday night slot. Barring other available timeslots, one of the two CBS sitcoms will likely be shelved and become a digital exclusive available for streaming the next day following the original broadcast.

Now that you mention it, I attempted to visit Global's website show page by "guessing" the URL for Broke, but got a 404 error. Also tried to guess URL on CTV and Citytv's websites: 404.

The fall press release mentions a 6-episodes cancon original "Departure", which I guess will premiere this summer alongside Private Eyes. Anyway, Global already renewed Nurses, Departure and greenlighted "Family Law" which entered production recently.

Speaking of Nurses, I binge-watched all 9 episodes so far in 2 days (finale monday). I found it inspired by Fox's The Resident for its administration drama and power struggle. As soon as they revealed head nurse Sinead as a recovering alcoholic, I made a mental bet "she'll relapse before the season is over"... and... damnit writers !!!! What have you not learn from "Remedy" (2014-15)? That show had the same elements: A character pushing pills, characters haven't slept in 36 hours, death of a patient affects hardly a character, a patient who got there with a positive bill of health dies unexpectedly or goes comatose... Photography felt like CTV's Saving Hope, same hospital, without the blue flare, and same Toronto directory of guests.

Because there are so many things to watch, I assumed that Nurses would be along the same lines as Remedy and Saving Hope, and just skipped it. My curiosity is satisfied each week by simply looking at 8 images from each episode (from the online pirate world) and then I don't get even further behind catching up on the 8 million other things I've yet to watch.

At some point, each of us reach our own breaking point for specific genres (hospital, cops, etc.) and simply give up and move on. It's often only if there is a certain actor(s) in a "tired" genre (as well as interesting images) that might get me curious enough to give yet another hospital drama a try. I still have so many episodes of The Resident to catch-up with, that the last thing I need is yet another hospital drama to come along.

Coming soon to Global ... Topless Nurses ... the same nurses from Nurses, but this time we have digitally removed some of their clothes from each of the previously aired episodes. We'll also have an aftershow special event Nurses After Dark that will air in the Fall, featuring real-life nurses who moonlight as exotic dancers.
Warning: I'm not playing with a full deck.

Opening theme has already be chosen : "Nooooo... Scruuuuuubs".

    Back on topic.
I saw a promo for "Broke, starting April 2nd on Global." Still no show page on their website.

As for archives purposes: Covid-19 affected the cancellation of almost live sports and events, live/semi-live award shows and games, reality shows (including Amazing Race, Survivor), daytime & latenight shows with a live audience, taped sitcoms with a live audience, and finally, filmed TV shows, in the process of filming their respective season finales or episodes leading to it, as well as pilots for the next TV season.

The NBA cancelled March Madness which was supposed to begin Thu March 19 on CBS. Expect some schedule changes, and some Border Security fillers on Global, for the next 2 weeks.

Edit: Didn't take long. Mostly reruns, except previously announced Hawaii 5-0's 2-hours finale will now be split in two, March 27 & Apr 3rd at 9pm, and a new Blue Bloods at 10pm on Apr 3rd.
    https://tvline.com/2020/03/13/hawaii...cbs-season-10/
I got a feeling, on thu March 26, Global might simsub CBS's Neighborhood rerun at 9:30pm rather than post-release NBC's Superstore...

    Edit 2 :

I might have skip that part when the press release came out last december. NBC scheduled 2 episodes on thu March 26 starting at 9pm (W&G takes a break), which Global will simsub.

NBC Flips "The Wall," "Little Big Shots" on Sundays; "The Blacklist" Return Trimmed to One Hour
The veteran drama was previously scheduled to air back-to-back episodes this Friday, March 20.
    http://thefutoncritic.com/news/2020/...20200317nbc05/

It wasn't a problem for Global, Blacklist in simsub at 8 (NBC Dateline back in 2-hours format), Hawaii 5-0 rerun in simsub at 9.
On sundays, Citytv can simsub Big Shots at 7pm, but Global already locked BBCAN at 8pm so they can't simsub The Wall without swapping them around.

On monday at 10pm, Global replaced a Bull rerun for a special "Coronavirus: Canada in Crisis".

So this week was supposed to original Colbert on CBS, then with the no audience they decided to take a week off, before an already planned other week after that..

But Colbert decided to make new opening and monologue for the first 3 nights this week and then show the rest of the show with repeat guest. I don't know if they did it Monday and Tuesday, but last night I decided to record it since I wanted to see the new intro and monologue.

Global had the repeat episode scheduled on CBS, but they showed the original repeat from the beginning and did not show the updated beginning of the show. Now that's really annoying. I guess nobody knows at Global that they have a third of the show new??? Now I can't confirm that they did this Monday and Tuesday as I did not record it but I assume tehy did if they did that last night.

Even if I recorded the CBS feed it would be simsub so, no way to cath the new segment other than online. I did catch it after all on my CBS Seatle feed but it's in SD and I hate that.

Anyway, how can they not know that...after 3 days? Wake up!!!

Big Brother Canada production was shut down when the government halted all non-essential businesses.

    - NBC's The Wall in simsub sundays
    - Wednesday 7pm BBCAN on Apr 1st still scheduled, likely the last one post-production-ready.
    - Thursdays restores the comedy lineup : Superstore (s-NBC), Man w/ Plan (s-CBS), W&G (s-NBC), Broke (s-CBS). And NBC's Indebted (online).

WEEKLY SPECIAL CORONAVIRUS: THE NEW REALITY BEGINS SUNDAY, APRIL 12 AT 7 P.M. LOCAL TIME ON GLOBAL
Global National Anchor Dawna Friesen Hosts the Global News Series

TORONTO, April 9, 2020 – With the crush of COVID-19 information, Global News is mobilizing to provide even more unprecedented coverage. Hosted by Global National anchor Dawna Friesen, Coronavirus: The New Reality is a broadcast that takes audiences behind the headlines, newsmakers and stories of the week for a deeper understanding of how their lives are changing. Reporting with honesty, integrity and compassion, the Global News team answers the public’s most pressing questions, providing information and context about the previous week while looking forward to the future, every Sunday at 7 p.m. locally on Global.

Yay! Two less Border Security fillers in the schedule! Speaking of sundays...

CBS Airing Sunday Night Movies to Fill Void Left by Shortened TV Seasons
For five consecutive weeks in the month of May, CBS will air iconic offerings from the Paramount Pictures library, beginning with Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark on Sunday, May 3 (8/7c).
    https://tvline.com/2020/04/07/cbs-su...ies-full-list/

It's safe to say NCIS:LA & NCIS:NO will have burned all their respective episodes on Apr 26. Global can opt to simsub NBC's The Wall at 8pm (and blank 9pm & 10pm, cancon repeats?) or simsub one of the movies on CBS if they own the broadcast rights, but since it's Corus ownership, it's movie library is almost reduced to Hallmark/Lifetime.

    - Last thursday, CBS had Man with a Plan at 8:30 & 9pm, but with W&G at 9pm, the 9pm MwaP episode was timeshifted at 8pm, shelfing Superstore, and simsubbing CBS's Broke.
    - Regular thursday this week.
    - On thu Apr 23, NBC initially had a different lineup and shuffled it recently with Superstore finale, B99 finale, W&G finale, a W&G retrospective at 9:30pm, and L&O:SVU finale. Global have MwaP to simsub at 8:30, but has to decide whether Broke or the W&G retrospective will be timeshifted at 8pm (and shelf the Superstore finale).
