TORONTO (December 17, 2019) – CTV is starting the New Year with stellar debuts, returning favourites, and big-ticket live events across CTV and CTV2, as the network today announced premiere dates for Winter 2020. Building on CTV’s strong fall schedule, the network is set to introduce five new series throughout January and February, headlined by highly anticipated new dramas 9-1-1: LONE STAR, starring Emmy Award^®-nominee Rob Lowe, and serialized legal and family drama FOR LIFE, from executive producer Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson.

“CTV is set to deliver its most dynamic midseason schedule ever,” said Mike Cosentino, President, Content and Programming, Bell Media. “With big-buzz new series, hit returning favourites, and the excitement of anticipated live events, the new year will deliver can’t-miss television, night after night on CTV.”

On CTV2, all-star acts compete for the ultimate title of World Champion when AMERICA’S GOT TALENT: THE CHAMPIONS returns to anchor the schedule for its second season. Plus new Maggie Lawson and Jason Biggs starrer, multi-camera comedy OUTMATCHED joins the CTV2 schedule in January.

New Series on CTV

• New series FLIRTY DANCING premieres Sunday, Dec. 29 at 8 p.m. ET/PT, before settling into its regular Wednesdays at 8 p.m. ET/PT day and timeslot beginning Jan. 1 on CTV. Part performance and part blind date, this series is all about romantic chemistry. Hosted by actress, producer, and dancer Jenna Dewan, complete strangers are taught a dance routine and then meet for the first time on a blind date. Singles perform a different choreographed dance with each of their two potential love interests, before choosing the one with whom they have the strongest connection.

• 9-1-1: LONE STAR premieres with a special two-night event beginning Sunday, 19 at 10 p.m. ET/7 p.m. PT, with the second episode airing Jan. 20 to kick-off the program’s regular Mondays at 8 p.m. ET/PT timeslot. Nearly 20 years ago, Owen Strand (Emmy Award^®-nominee Rob Lowe, PARKS AND RECREATION, THE WEST WING) was the lone survivor of his Manhattan firehouse on 9/11. In the wake of the attack, Owen had the unenviable task of rebuilding his station. After a similar tragedy happens to a firehouse in Austin, Texas, Owen, along with his troubled firefighter son T.K. (Ronen Rubinstein, DEAD OF SUMMER), takes his progressive philosophies of life and firefighting to the station, where he helps them start anew. The series also stars Liv Tyler (THE LEFTOVERS), Sierra McClain (MINDHUNTER) Jim Parrack (THE DEUCE, TRUE BLOOD), Natacha Karam (THE BRAVE), Brian Michael Smith (QUEEN SUGAR), newcomer Rafael Silva, and Julian Works (AMERICAN CRIME), and is from co-creators Ryan Murphy, Brad Falchuk, and Tim Minear.

• New multi-camera comedy OUTMATCHED airs Thursday at 8:30 p.m. ET/PT beginning Jan. 23 on CTV2, and follows a blue-collar couple in Atlantic City as they raise their four kids – three of whom happen to be certified geniuses. The series stars Jason Biggs (ORANGE IS THE NEW BLACK and the American Pie franchise) and Maggie Lawson (LETHAL WEAPON).

• FOR LIFE airs Tuesdays at 10 p.m. ET/PT beginning Feb. 11 on CTV, and is inspired by the life of Isaac Wright Jr. From executive producer Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson, the fictional serialized legal and family drama follows prisoner Aaron Wallace (Nicholas Pinnock, COUNTERPART), who becomes a lawyer, litigating cases for other inmates while fighting to overturn his own life sentence for a crime he didn’t commit. His quest for freedom is driven by his desperate desire to get back to the family he loves – his estranged wife (Joy Bryant, PARENTHOOD) and daughter (Tyla Harris, SIX) – and reclaim the life that was stolen from him. FOR LIFE will also, through the window of his ferocious struggle and his complicated relationship with a progressive female prison warden (Indira Varma), examine the flaws and challenges in our penal and legal systems. • ZOEY’S EXTRAORDINARY PLAYLIST premieres Sunday, Feb. 16 with a two-hour premiere beginning at 8 p.m. ET/PT, before settling into its regular Sundays at 9 p.m. ET/PT timeslot. The new musical drama follows Zoey Clarke (Jane Levy, TWIN PEAKS), a whip-smart computer coder forging her way in San Francisco. After an unusual event, Zoey starts to hear the innermost wants and desires of the people around her through song. In addition to Levy, the star-studded cast also includes Skylar Astin (Pitch Perfect), Peter Gallagher (THE O.C.), Alex Newell (EMPIRE), John Clarence Stewart (BLUE BLOODS), Carmen Cusack (A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood), and Mary Steenburgen (ELF).

Almost Family will likely finish its run on CTV2 once Criminal Minds returns.

With American Housewife returning to CTV and in simulcast with ABC, there's a hole to fill for Friday at 8:30pm unless CTV does what I think they will do and what they have been doing for many years. Seems predictable.

Still to be determined is what will air at 9:00pm once Magnum, P.I. goes on hiatus in February. Perhaps one of the CanCon shows as mentioned in the previous thread.

Also Tuesday nights is going to be fairly jam-packed by mid-January. CTV will have The Conners in pre-release, followed by The Resident, This Is Us and Emergence. CTV2 is running Season 1 of The CW series Pandora. At that point, where does Ellen's Game of Games go? My guess is that it ends up moving over to CTV2 airing in simulcast with NBC, and bumping Pandora to a later hour at 9:00pm.

Also, no mention of Young Sheldon - presumably it could be moving over to CTV2 in simulcast to pair with midseason sitcom Outmatched.

No Canadian broadcaster thus far for the FOX series Deputy.

Fox's Outmatched dumped to CTV2 serves no purpose to me. Should have been paired with American Housewife in post-release, or handed down to Citytv. It airs at the same time as B99, but it's better than Mom reruns.

It's a valid assessment. But then again, it's clear that CTV would rather go with all dramas on Thursday with Station 19, Grey's and SVU. CTV2 has something to program on Thursdays in simulcast with football season being over. And bear in mind the only reason why it was picked up by CTV has to do with their output deal, that now includes 20th Centurry FOX especially following its sale to Disney. But yeah, City could have found better ways to fill some holes in their primetime schedule.

Zoey's pilot is scheduled on tues Jan 7 at 10pm on NBC (after a 2-hours Ellen Games), at the same time as ABC's Emergence. CTV opted to ignore it.

NBC will be repeating the pilot episode on Sunday, February 16 at 8:00pm, so this is where CTV has opted to wait and premiere the show until then.

HTGAWM's remaining 6 episodes are scheduled for April, so let's wait for the spring schedule release...

I think it will end up finishing its run on CTV2. No longer a Top 30 show as it was during the first seasons, plus CTV has a stable lineup of shows (as mentioned above) for the evening starting from January and right through the finales come May. And all four shows will all be airing in simulcast.

Just noticed Fox's press release, 9-1-1 Lone Star premiere is 90 minutes, approximately 10pm to 11:30pm ET on Fox after a football game, in both time zones.

If last year is any indication, CTV is expected to broadcast the football game and 9-1-1 in simulcast, bumping the national and local news maybe past midnight ET with all the post-game fillers. West coast should expect some TBBT fillers until the 11pm News, as usual.

As much as I detest the last-minute scheduling changes, I have to admit it makes more sense, from the perspective of the advertisers and networks.

If not only for the Golden Globes, it's safe to say that they would have moved the football games much later so one of them can air in primetime for maximum viewership. Also, considering that NBC opted to air the late afternoon game leading into the Golden Globes, it makes sense for CTV to do the same for simsub opportunintes.

Based on the advanced listings for next Sunday (January 12), with one of the playoff football games starting at 6:30pm and also airing on CTV, it appears that Atlantic Canada, Ontario and Quebec will be missing out on original programming that will be showing elsewhere across the country.
A new episode of All Rise will follow the football game in most markets. Meanwhile, some markets west of Ontario will have a new episode of God Friended Me and a bonus episode of Ellen's Game of Games (post-release NBC from Tuesday). Any filler will be in the form of Big Bang Theory reruns.

CTV2 will air an encore of the AGT: Champions season premiere followed by back-to-back episodes of Shark Tank in simulcast with ABC.

Somehow, a rerun labeled as "premiere" airs tonight (Jan 10) at 8pm in simulcast with ABC. Positive side: One less TBBT rerun!

Speaking of fridays, ABC announced Shark Tank moves there starting Feb 28 at 8pm, while Housewive moves wednesdays mid-march. CTV doesn't seem to have anything to simsub there.

Since my last post, CTV’s schedule for Sunday January 12 has been revised.

All Rise is a rerun, so CTV will be airing God Friended Me right after the football game, except in Atlantic Canada, where it will air on CTV2 at an earlier time locally. The show then goes on hiatus for over a month before returning back on February 16.

Ellen’s Game of Games appears to be shelved until further notice and it looks like there are no plans to move the show over to CTV2, which is currently airing season 1 of sci-fi series Pandora in the Tuesday 8:00pm timeslot. Simply no room on CTV, which has The Conners in pre-release, and an all-simulcast lineup of The Resident, This Is Us and Emergence.

With dramas and reality shows dominating the schedule, pretty much all of the sitcoms currently carried by CTV are now taking over the nightly 7:30pm timeslot.
Monday: Bob Hearts Abishola (pre-CBS)
Tuesday: The Conners (pre-ABC)
Wednesday: The Goldbergs (pre-ABC) (Also airing in simulcast on CTV2)
Thursday: Young Sheldon (pre-CBS)

That leaves only Friday and any half-hour filler slots on both CTV and CTV2 with well...what else, Big Bang Theory reruns.
Also, American Housewife moves to CTV, coupled with Big Bang reruns on Fridays through the end of February, when it will give way to Shark Tank, which moves from Sundays. And by the time Criminal Minds ends, American Housewife moves to Wednesday 9:30pm, where it will probably be paired with either a new half-hour acquisition, or a Big Bang rerun as filler.

Looking ahead, several timeslots will open up to accommodate some CanCon, including the final season of Cardinal, a new season of Jann and the premiere of Transplant. No word on MasterChef Canada (which appears to be on hiatus this year) or The Launch. CTV probably has no room in their schedule this year to air these shows, although I am thinking the latter has been quietly cancelled.

Still no word on American Idol returning to CTV2. There is currently no page to be found on CTV’s website but it still exists for CTV2 in the Bell Media Advertising Sales website. Also, they ran into scheduling conflicts last year as they only aired the Sunday episodes, while the Monday episodes were exclusive to ABC, because of The Voice. Regardless, they have room to fill on Sundays so I have a feeling they will make an announcement once details of the spring lineup are released. CTV already has God Friended Me, Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist and The Rookie to round out their Sunday night lineup.

ABC indeed gave Stumptown a full season. So far, 10 episodes have aired and it is projected to run with limited interruptions, which will take it to at least 20 or 21 episodes. It may be pre-empted on March 4 for another live Nik Wallenda special (airtime to be determined) and is scheduled be pre-empted on March 11 for a full night marathon of Modern Family episodes within a month of the series finale.

Starting Wednesday, April 8, ABC will be filling Stumptown’s timeslot with the revival of Who Wants to Be a Millionaire hosted by Jimmy Kimmel and celebrity contestants playing for charity. This is on the very same evening when Modern Family airs its series finale.

I was thinking the same thing as well regarding Transplant for Monday 10:00pm, along with Jann on Wednesday nights. Unless CTV picked up these Millionaire specials, this timeslot is a perfect fit for the fourth and final season of Cardinal.

Safe to say that pretty much puts the nail in the coffin for Almost Family. But it’s also bad news for Flirty Dancing, as the final two episodes have also been scrapped from their Wednesday timeslot and moved to Saturday, January 25.

CTV solved the puzzle... Goldbergs simsub at 8pm, a Bob Hearts rerun at 8:30pm for Jan 22, a TBBT rerun for Jan 29. CTV2 gets movies instead on both nights.

Speaking of Bob Hearts, its monday Jan 20th episode (S1E13) is titled "The Canadians of Africa"... whatever that means.

New FOX sitcom Outmatched moves to CTV, which will be airing it in post-release Fridays at 8:30pm beginning January 24 following American Housewife.

That leaves CTV2 with nothing but sitcom reruns including back-to-back episodes of Big Bang Theory on Thursdays.

The monday after the Superbowl, Feb 3rd, ABC has a 3-hours Bachelor, preempting Good Doctor. And on wednesday, CBS has a 2-hours Criminal Minds... CTV moved Stumptown in pre-release monday 10pm. Problem solved.

As for Citytv, they have NBC's Manifest in simulcast at 10pm. Dunno how they'll manage the 3rd hour of Bachelor.
