I don't know how it's doing subscriber wise although I've heard it's not doing all that great. I hope they're doing well though, finally an independent broadcaster and one that actually airs a variety of programs that haven't been seen in Canada before and that are exclusive to that network. It's quite refreshing when compared to the rest of the other broadcasters here that fill up their channels with reruns from other channels in their empire.

Super Channel is considered a Premium channel so I've moved your thread to the Premium Channels.

You raise an interesting question. It has been launched in 2007. I wonder how it compares with other channels.

I agree that Superchannel provides a lot of content not seen elsewhere in Canada . Their series are better than the ones on tmn /HBO and their movies are improving. They need to add more ondemand content especially hd ondemand stuff like series and movies. I subscribed to both services and still find myself going back to superchannel. I watch more of superchannel than I did Tmn . I watched the odd movie ondemand on TMN , But with superchannel I watch ,movies ,boxing and series and get my use out of it.

    Superchannel has great series

Sons of Anarchy , Justified, Southland are a lot more interesting than the HBO series ! Had both services and find that Superchannel is improving their movie section ,but the series are great and I never miss an episode of my favorite series. When I had TMN they had a few good movies but then its all HBO content and that ruined it for me. I don't care if a lot of people disagree , but Tmn isn't as good as it was several years ago . I pay ten bucks with a discount from Rogers for superchannel and find they show less repeats than TMN. For ten bucks I am really enjoying the service. To get all the TMN / Mpix its over twenty bucks a month. I won't pay that for the services they currently provide and a service I rarely watched. We all have a choice and opinion and for the value and use I get it with SC more than TMN.

Nice Eulogy/advertisement for Super Channel... if you're working for them, try to get the channels added on Vidéotron system.
We had a good run: 2006 to 2020. Thanks for the informations and debates.

Sons of Anarchy - originating broadcaster = FX (basic cable)
Justified - originating broadcaster = FX (basic cable)
Southland - originating broadcaster = TNT (basic cable)

Movie wise, TMN and MC have deals with way more studios.

Series wise, TMN and MC have deals with HBO, SHO AND Starz. Meaning they are airing stuff made for PREMIUM television and not relying on basic cable programming scraps.

Face it, SuperChannel has failed to be a real competitor to the incumbent pay-tv channels. They should have grabbed the Starz programming since Starz only got into original programming in the past couple of years, instead they continued to grab basic cable programming instead. If they want to be taken seriously as a premium television service they need to purchase made-for-payTV programming.

As it sits they'd be better off redoing their service, throwing in commercials in the allotted space in the programming they are buying and rebranding as TNT Canada, FX Canada and lowering their wholesale rate to basic cable pricing so more Canadians would subscribe.

Don't get me wrong, their programming isn't bad, it just is not PayTV programming and when most of it is basic cable fare they should just add commercials and rethink their strategies. Unless they truly want to step up to the plate and compete with TMN/MC. There are 3 premium level brands producing content in the US but they've let TMN/MC have it all except for the odd boxing match from SHO.

Don't know why we have to choose which of the 2 we find has good series. Cable series are NOT bad series because they are on basic cable vs premium channels, this is not 1990.

Some of the best shows are on basic cable in the US and I for one like both. I subscribe to TMN/HBO only for series as I only watch movies because I have the channel, but would't be a subscriber if they didn'T have those exclusive series. I would subscribe to Superchannel also, but it is not on Videotron.

But why do people have to trash or put down the other guys (one way or another) is beyond ridiculous. You can have preference, but no need to say the other is bad because you don;t like it.

I agree for the most part. I mean, good series' are good series' whether they are made for basic cable channels or for premium networks. Someone could debate whether the Super Channel series' are good or not, but just because most of them were originally made for basic cable channels shouldn't be a big deal. If the series are good and there's enough people willing to pay a premium for it, then so be it. Just because shows are made for premium networks, doesn't mean they're good either, basic cable stuff can be just as good. And, TMN/MC may actually be "better", but that doesn't mean Super Channel isn't good as well and worth its price.

And to note, some of the stuff Super Channel airs is premium stuff: The Big C and boxing from Showtime and Crash from Starz. And I believe there's others as well, at least there use to be, I know they use to air Head Case from Starz, but I don't know if it's on schedule anymore.

If you think Sons of Anarchy and Justified are 'scraps' you've never watched them. Sons of Anarchy just won a Golden Globe for best actress. Super Channel has picked up some Showtime and Starz series (The Big C, Party Down, Head Case etc.) and they have a bunch of other quality series.

Their boxing is at least as good as HBO's and they have Strikeforce MMA.

They don't have many blockbuster movies, but they have a lot of good movies (Slumdog Millionaire, Crazy Heart and Fantastic Mr. Fox are a couple that I've seen recently) and a much better selection of foreign films.

Problem is, Golden Globe award winning series on Super Channel come from basic cable specialties, so it would be a better idea if Showcase would pick it up instead so it would be easier to access from an equivalent canadian network.

Instead, if you're interested in watching that show, you have no choice but to pay 15$ per month for the freedom to watch it on your TV in your living room (read: subscribing to SC), OR download the show online but feeling bad about downloading a show from a Pay TV channel... as mentionned above, Videotron customers have no access to SC, nor AMC so they have no access to any of their shows.

As for movies, SC seems to have signed an exclusive deal with Fox studio, meaning TMN cannot air movies such as Slumdog Millionaire or Avatar, but hey, look at that, both of those movies air this month on Super Écran! SC also airs catalog movies which can also air on Mpix/Encore Avenue, or on MovieTime with commercials.

Superchannel is a great alternative to HBO dominated services!

Listen when you compare the series between TMN and Superchannel I think the series on Superchannel are much better and more interesting . You can comment all you want on superchannel and try to make it less appealling . Sons of Anarchy ,The Closer , Crash, Southland , Leverage, Justified ,Memphis Beat , Men of a certain Age , Mistresses , Peep Show , Rizzoli & Isles , The Big C are all great series and more interesting than the boring HBO services. I don't care if these come from basic cable specialties in the USA ,they are better series and we enjoy them at our convenience. They have a great selection of movies that I haven't seen before unlike all the reruns of HBO content and a few blockbusters as you call them that most of us have already seen on DVD or the theatre. As for the price its lower than 15 dollars for me with Rogers and much cheaper than ordering TMN & Mpix for 20 dollars plus a waste of time magazine.

    Justified an awesome series!!!

Just another example of why Superchannel is the way to go when it comes to great series and never seen before MOVIES . Justified is another example of why series on SC beat out HBO big time!!! Justified ,Sons of Anarchy ,Leverage ,Southland are fantastic!!! Try them and you will see why I switched from HBO.:) Can't wait for season 2 of Justified.
