Trying to explain what cable was like when I was a kid to today's kids is very difficult. They don't understand the concept of NOT having 24/7 access to channels dedicated to kids programmings. For us, we had before school, after school, saturday mornings, and that was IT.

Canada didn't get any kids channels until 1988, when YTV and Family Channel launched and even then many programming blocks were not kids programming. I remember when Family Channel was a premium channel, they would show a classic 30s-50s movie every day at 1:00pm. Most of the primetime movies were also classic movies. There was the odd Disney movie but definately not like today.

In the south shore of Montreal area in 1976 before pay tv channels and converter boxes. My memory is a little fuzzy but I think this was the layout.
When the first converter boxes came out you could get WETK on the cable band [20,21,22] since the channel 6 feed had horrible ghosting being on the local CBC OTA channel along with CJOH 8 CTV Cornwall and WMTW 8 ABC Poland Spring ME. I believe we only paid 10 dollars a month for cable back then.

Correction, CFTM 10 was on 7 not CHLT. CHLT only showed up around the same time as CJOH, WMTW, etc on cable band. Cable in Longueuil, Chateauguay and St Hubert was a little different from Montreal. Guide and weather I'm still unsure as to their original placement.

BTW Bigoranget, WPTZ's original station IDs would state Plattsburg, North Pole, Burlington since the station was located in Plattsburg NY, North Pole is a suburb and the Burlington designation is due to WPTZ serving NBC to that region across Lake Champlain in Vermont. I remember as a kid DXing the US locals with coat hangers, wire runs and SOS pads on the end of rabbit ears before cable. :)

Does anyone know the original Expressvu lineup from 1997? I remember it was about $7.

Yeah I don't have the lineup but if I recall it was mostly locals. Indeed I don't think their basic lineup has changed much since then other than adding more locals, well that and raising the price too :)
