I've noticed Carolyn MacKenzie has been anchoring News Hour Final lately ... she does well on her own (during this time slot). Hope she returns to the 11pm permanently ...
I don't think there is any truth to rumor of Global wanting to remove her as anchor and have her return to reporting. Although her contract was up, the way it happened just didn't make sense, not only would it NOT be cost-effective to keep her as a repoter and hire another anchor, but usually when that happens you already have a replacement anchor ready to go, Global didn't.
It looks like she decided to leave and spend time with her family and after CBC made her a great offer, I don't think she would lie to Global (her husband works at Global) and her viewers.
The CBC Newsworld offer could have just worked out better for spending time with her family, since it's a 24/7 broadcaster she can pretty much anchor whenever she wants.

Antony Robart sitting in tonight for Carolyn on the 6pm Evening News ... He is yummy :P
Watched the News Hour tonight ... Carolyn does well anchoring on her own. Wonder if any thought has been given to allow her to return to weeknights - anchoring solo (she is better than Leslie) ...
I really don't understand all the Leslie hate. I think he's a great anchor
Anyways, forget about him going anywhere anytime soon, Global has invested alot in him and is very happy with how he is doing.

Is Carolyn anchoring News Hour Final permanently now? She does well with it ...
Also, any word yet as to when Anne Marie makes her debut on Newsworld??
Given all that is going on at Canwest these days, is the intention still to fill Anne Marie's vacancy? If so, any idea on the front runner?
Alex Pierson sitting in the anchor chair this weekend ... she is very good.
Global should look re-align their existing talent, they would do well against the competition ...
Leslie and Alex: News Hour Anchors
Carolyn: News Hour Final
Antony - or someone else to Anchor on Weekends ...
Adding Alex to the News Hour would give the show some leverage compared the other supper hour news casts (i.e.: she is better (and different) than Christine Bentley, Anne Mroczkowski, Diana Swain ...)
For those of you wondering where Anne-Marie Mediwake will anchor on CBC Newsworld, CBC announced today that she will anchor CBC News Now on CBC News Network (formally CBC Newsworld) Weekdays from 9:00AM-11:00AM Eastern
This clearly proves that the reason why she left Global was to spend time with her family, her kids will be in school at that time, and she will be able to be home with them in the afternoon. Even though CBC News Network (aka newsworld) is national there is no way she will be getting the same exposure or salary she was getting as co-anchor for Global's News Hour.

We don't know how much but there is no way she is getting the same as a 9:00AM anchor on CBC News Network then she would have as a 6:00PM anchor on Global. There is no way CBC would be able to pay her even close to the amount Global was paying her as the News Hour co-anchor.
Even though CBC News Network is national, the 9:00AM-11:00AM slot doesn't get huge ratings, it's a low peak viewing period, Global's News Hour at 6:00PM pulls in more viewers guaranteed.

I didn't expect her to get Peter Mansbridge type of salary. But its obvious she doesn't care about ratings or pay right now. If anything she probably did the smart thing and went after job security with flexible hours and as you said she wants to spend more time with her family and Global couldn't offer it.
The CBC has added Anne Marie's bio to their website
http://www.cbc.ca/programguide/perso...marie_mediwake
Interesting time slot though - only 2 hours? Very small window of time ... wonder why she was not given at least a 3 hour window? Suhana Marchand was given a huge chunk of time??
Regardless, it will be nice to see AMM back on the air!
Now for her replacement on Global ...
Anne Marie is looking good on CBC - check her out 9am EST weekdays on CBC NN.
I didn't really see her leaving to be with her kids full time and thought something was up and I wouldn't be surprised if her husband (Darryl Konyenbelt) moves over to CBC at some point too.
Global is a sinking ship although I am tending to watch their news more and more as I'm getting sick of Ken & Christine and Tom Brown is just annoying. I miss Dave Devall.
Unless CBC were to offer Darryl a prime anchor spot or something, I don't see why he would leave Global, and I wouldn't call Global Toronto a sinking ship, they still beat CBC News in the ratings.

With respect the 'sinking ship' comment ... from the perspective of an everyday viewer - that comment has a grain of truth associated with it. Global Toronto has the leanest news programming of all the major networks in Toronto - they broadcast only at 6 and 11pm. They also have a lot of movement ... anchors and reporters seem to come and go more frequently when compared to other stations in the market. In the last 10 years they have had 4 sets of anchors for the 6 pm news ... Beverly Thomson (solo), Beverly and Leslie, Leslie, Leslie and Anne Marie ... not to mention they have had a lot of on-air people leave them for other stations ... Monica Kim, Anwar Knight, Graham Richardson, Michael Kuss, Pooja Handa, Nathan Downer, Sue Sgambati, Beverly Thomson, Zuraidah Alman, Jacquline Milczarek, Anne Marie .... Need I go on?
Any insights as to who/when a co-anchor will be added to News Hour?

Is it a coincidence that most of those personalities you just mentioned have moved over to CTV or CTV owned CP24?
