re: News and Learning HD on BELL??

Anybody know what's coming to this package in the 1562-1586 range? There's an info channel on 1560 that contains no information. lol.

I've heard rumours of CNN HD, FOOD HD, HGTV HD, FOX NEWS HD, but nothing confirmed.

I really hope that FOX News HD is not included in this, since I refuse to buy any package that includes the channel, since FOX News get's a fee for carriage subscribing to that package is the same as making a monthly donation to an extreme right wing political party.

Bell really should look at what Shaw did and remove FOX News from the package all together and put it as a single channel, people who watch the channel would still buy it, and it would allow people who hate FOX News (and there are plenty in Canada) to subscribe to the package that currently don't because FOX News is included.

TVViewer, I do tend to defend your position on many issues as I feel that it is benefitial to have a network "insider" on the forums. However, wishing to ensure that FOX does not receive FFC fees from a package because they are a right-wing organization merits a little further discussion.
-Global is known as a right-wing organization in Canada
-Global purchases a lot of programming from FOX
-Global works together with FOX on certian properties such as FOX Sportsworld Canada

You can always pick and pay the other HD channels from the package that you want if you feel so strongly. But your postiion is very hypocritical.

I know it may sound a bit hypocritical, let me try to explain how I feel,

Although my views tend to side with the left, I really don't have any problem with right wing / conservative media outlets, I'm fine if a media outlet leans towards the conservative side, I just feel that FOX News Channel has crossed the line, they are no longer acting like a news organization, they are acting like a political party, I don't really want my money going towards a right wing political party.

I know that Global and FOX have a very close relationship, I know that Canwest and Newscorp team up for projects, I don't have a problem with that, I don't have a problem with the FOX network, I don't even have a problem with NewsCorp who owns FOX News, I just have a problem with my money going towards the FOX News Channel. If NewsCorp wants to run FOX News Channel, they can go ahead, but I don't support what FOX News is doing, and I don't want any of my money going towards it, I would rather have FOX News on it's own, that way only the people who support what FOX News does are funding the channel.

Well it is just as easy to say that as it is for me to say I don't want my money going towards Global should FFC for local stations be implemented. I don't like Global news for the same reason you probably don't like FNC. There is absolutely nothing that I watch on Global that is not available from other sources. Should I be allowed to opt out of specific local channels on the same basis that you would want to opt out of FNC?

I guess you have a point, I just feel that FOX News has crossed the line for me, I feel it's in a league of it's own.

TVViewer, I don't think that whole FOX News opt in option is still available on Shaw Direct. That option quietly disappeared a few weeks after it was introduced.

Didn't mean to start a whole politics war. lol... I just personally refuse to subsribe to ANY standard def channels anymore as I hate paying for one channel and getting seven I don't want.

So getting some news networks in HD would be nice.

When you say "hopes are up", what are you basing that on? You've been hearing rumours or just guessing? lol.

    Thanks!

PS. Thread was started to discuss the News and Learning HD package, not talk politics :p

So why should Canadians not have the right to not have any of their money goto a channel like CTV, Global, CityTV, etc? You do not want any of your money to goto Fox News, well I don't want any of my Money to goto CTV/Global. Should I not have the same right to decide where my money goes?

Could a moderator please close this thread, this thread was SUPPOSED to be to discuss News and Learning HD on BELL TV, instead it has turned into a political thread.

Start a new thread for your political views, I was looking for insight into News and Learning and what channels might be coming to BELL.
