    Mont-Royal transmitters maintenance until March 12, 2011

Some of you nightbirds noticed since February 22 that all of Montreal analog OTA stations (except CFTU and CJNT) goes off the air between at midnight and 5:15am (except saturday nights), and radio stations operate at low power. Télé-Québec confirms maintenance will occur until March 12.

In details, this is due to a faulty transmitter that sent excessive ground radiation and needed to be changed. The other problem was that a CBC contractor on the site disrupted fiber optics cables back in January 20th while digging for new Hydro-Québec lines, and again on January 25th. CFJP-TV (V) was using backup transmitter since these events. They also need to install digital equipment on the site, prepare for the analog shutdown.

Once completed, it is expected for SRC and CBC to move their digital transmitter to the Mont-Royal, which will improve reception on the west side of the mountain, but still operating at low power until analog shutdown day.

As for Télé-Québec digital transmitter on the Stade Olympique, it is offline until March 4th. They're changing the transmiter for a Harris one, more powerful. They intended to increase the antenna height but the owners refused.

Edit: Télé-Québec's digital transmitter will be back March 8th due to delays.

CBFT-DT and CBMT-DT are finally broadcasting from the Mont-Royal tower since 7pm yesterday.

Those of you living on the other side of the mountain from the CBC building, go to UHF 19 and 20 in DTV mode, you should get a signal now ;)
